I totally disagree with shooting dogs.

At the same, yes people do drop dogs to run across other peoples property.
We had them drive onto our lease up to half a mile and drop them on a ridge that usually had the deer run towards their property.

A I know had hunters drop dogs on blacktop that ran along his property line, on the other side of him was their property. It took several dogs being killed and bon fires ensuing to stop this.

A lease I was in the same scenario played out except the dog killing and bon fire.

When they struck a mature buck they cleared the county it seems. Does ran in circles like rabbits.

Has anyone suggested anything even close to this. No one is blaming the dogs. It's the owners that are responsible. I'm no rocket scientist, but I know if I turn my dogs loose on my 320 acre lease, they won't stay on it. That's not a maybe. That's a for sure. I don't give a rats butt if it's legal or not. It's immoral and unethical and it will be the demise of dog hunting in this state.

Actually, yes, it has been posted numerous times!

And, believe it or not, we agree on the 2nd part. That is why I don't do it anymore.

Do you mind showing me where someone suggested that the dogs knew where to run the deer, or where someone suggested the dogs should herd the deer where their owners wanted them to? I'd like to see those posts.

It's really a very simple concept.

- YOU run dogs on YOUR land and all is good.
- Still hunter hunts on HIS land and all is good.
- YOUR dogs keep getting on STILL hunters land equals dead dogs and trouble

I was in a club in Fayette where there was a dog club next to ours. I have witnessed members of that club turn their dogs out on our property. After talking with those members 1/2 a dozen times and still getting an indifferenced attitude from them we started catching the dogs and calling the GW. I do know they got a warning from the GW which led to our roads getting tacked. After paying for tractors, trucks, and ATV tires I'd had enough and now I only hunt in counties that don't allow dog hunting.

NOW is the time for all GOOD men to come to the aid of their country.

Not condoning it but if "tensions had been building" they should have taken better care if their dogs. Obviously they KNEW they were infringing on the other property before now.

I dont thank nothing 'bout killing a few corn dogs, if they're on my property.

ahh Danny, Danny..... laugh

I guess it would depend on the property, I'll give a couple of examples.

I used to hunt a property in Greene co, 1800 acres at Lock Seven. The land to the right of the paved Lock Seven Road widened as it approached the river. All woods. The club to the far right used to bring the dogs along the road and turn em out on the right side. Toss up as to where the deer ran, but if they ran right the club had standers along the property line. One day a club member caught em dropping off the dogs and killed all five of them. Damn near had a killing over it....

another guy I know has land along a road near Leeds. A power line cuts behind a part of his property, USS land at the power line. The local dog hunters used to drop their dogs off on his property, at his mail box. Usually the deer ran up the hollow and across the powerline, into the waiting standers. One day the landowner killed ALL of the dogs with a tripod mounted .30 machine gun....all of them. I ran up on the dog hunters just after the killing and they were headed up to his house to stomp his ass. I asked em to wait till I could get on the Interstate and be gone because NONE of them would make it up the last 200 yards to his house alive. I left.

it does happen, but I'd say most dogs running on yer land just ended up there...

Don't give me any, "It's MY land!" BS.

It is leased property that you chose to pay to hunt.....no more, no less.

Why not just lease property in an area that does NOT allow dog hunting? There are plenty of places like that.

What if the dog club moves in next to a stalk club? Doesn't that go both ways.....

Damn Fred. Some folks really lack common sense.
That's just plain mean when you take a machine gun to a bunch of dogs. I would never accidently trespass on his land.

You are absolutely right. You can't run dogs on a small tract. A good bit of the problem also has to do with the breed of dogs deer hunters most commonly use. A hot nosed Walker Hound can cross a section and not even be warmed up yet. You really need 4-5000 acres to hunt with the high powered dog breeds like that. I know a man that used Blackmouth Curs for drives and they would bump the deer just enough to get them moving, and he never had any problems with his neighbors.

Ok splain me this......would this scenario have been any different had the dogs been shot by a landowner who allowed NO HUNTING? To me it is the same thing since ALL properties in Alabama are posted and require written permission to hunt. The pro dog side here seem to be saying that they shouldnt have shot the dogs but I can assure you that almost anyone short of some hippie tree hugging PETAmember will shoot your dogs if it happens more than a few on his non hunting land. Dont know the rules there but Cullman county has a leash law which says if you dont have em on a leash they better stay on your land.

the guy collects automatic weapons and had had a LOT of trouble with these dog hunters dropping off the dogs on his land. I think it sorta slowed down after that though....

You right about Walkers, my dad had some that would run for 2 or three days. You would get 1 good hunt out of'em, and that was it they would be gone.

You do that and you'll go to prison. Plus, maybe you hadn't noticed, humans are more important than dogs.

Hogwild is right about the dogs not trespassing... but the hunter is... the moment he steps foot on my land to retrieve his dog.

And if you love your dog so much, why do you allow it to cross others property after having been asked numerous times to stop. Seems to me that's not love for the dog but lust of the hunt. The rush of the chase that you love. Not the dog.

That is a silly statement... I have personally and I knoew many other people that have turned down a few leases after we specifically asked if there was dog clubs surrounding it. I have hunted next to a group of outlaw dog hunters once and I will never do that again if have my choice. As far a leasing land after a dog club... if it is in a good area and there is no more dog hunting around it, why not? Most still hunters are in it for the long haul so the hunting would get better. It would take some time especially if the prior doggers shot everything that moved, but it would get better....

I dont see a whole lot of difference in turning dogs loose on land where they are not welcome, and actually trespassing in person. Either way, it is being disrespectful to the landowner or lease holder. After several incidents, I would not blame someone for shooting dogs.
