I need a little advice on the planting of soybeans. Do soybeans need to be row planted or can they be broadcast out of spreader. Is it something you can plant in your grass patches during the spring and then disk them up for winter planting or do you plant them in half of your field and leave the other half for regular planting for winter food or whats the best way to go about it.
I want to try and plant some, but just trying to figure out the best way to approach it.

Soybeans can be broadcast. They are an annual...so they will die in the fall. They can be left standing or disked for fall planting of wheat/oats etc. What you described about leaving 1/2 standing is a great idea, just keep in mind that in a lot of cases...sb are like candy to deer. If your deer population is high and your plantings small...the deer will prob descimate your sb before they can produce grain for late season feed. If you have enough ground...planting the whole field in sb and then leaving 1/2 standing during the winter is not a bad idea.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

on that same note. what about weed control, fertilizer, and so forth. How many bags/pounds to plant 10 acres of beans? When do you plant soybeans?

i like iron clay peas better
Do the clay peas seem to grow better, or are they just better attractants.

for me clay peas handle the pressure better , better in dry weather too.
i plant (broadcast)the peas then disk it all for fall plots too but by fall planting time there are no peas left to eat .
if you can let the beans stand through the season that might be the best way to go "if" your deer dont keep them mowed downed.

Dr. B Hey doc, call Dale Wilson at farmersfeed and seed on fleming road ( off court street south of bypass). He will fix you up.

Dunno if anyone threw out planting dates. Depends on your location too however. Here in north al, we plant (for grain purposes) anywhere from the first week of april thru july. If you're not looking to produce grain...they can be planted for grazing up to mid september. Lower alabama...would think you could start planting in late Feb or march..depending on the weather.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

Also, you can check out the Summer Plots Topic in the QDM Forum for some Eagle Seed plot pics. I had in various stages last year. I have been planting them since Brad came out with them.

Soil temp needs to be around 58 degrees. I have always planted the last week of April. Lower AL, stay in late March time frame. Feb. is too early.

Depends on your deer density and if you think you are going to lose a lot of plants during the two leaf stage.
Where I plant we have a medium deer density and I plant fairly large fields (all over 2 acres and most are 4-6 acres). I plant with a drill at 38 lbs. per acre. I lose very few plants during the two leaf stage due to the amount of other food sources we have on the property during that time (clovers mainly).
If broadcasting within an area with high deer densities I would recommend planting at 60-65 lbs. per acre. Inevitably some seed will be lost by being cracked by the spreader, buried too deep and then those that are nipped off.
If you are in a high deer density area, you will need to keep deer out of the plots from germination until approximately day 25-30. This gives the beans their best chance for survival. Large plots help. 3D fencing and Miloganite are also two good but expensive options.
If you plant corn in the mix (this isn't going to make sense but it is what I have found to work well) back the bean rate down 5 lbs per acre and add 10 lbs of corn per acre.
If you are able to drill these numbers go out the door...

What is the price per acre for you guys. I know it can vary from location but rough estimate.
