I finally got to shoot a few of the new hand loads I made and was very impressed with the results. Granted my point of impact was off from my point of aim but that was mostly my falt from not getting far enough down on the barrel. Patterns were shot from a Benelli SBE2 with a rhino choke. All shots were from 40 yds besides the last shot of TSS. I started out with a leftover nitro shell from last season so I could get a good comparison between the two. The nitro was a 3 1/2 inch 2 7/8 ounce load.

Next I shot a 2 oz TSS load of 8x9's.

Then I shot a 2 1/4 oz load of TSS 8x9's.

Just for the heck of it I backed up to 60 and shot a 2 1/4 oz load of 8x9's. I was really suprised at how well it held a pattern at that distance. I'm not advocating shooting one that far but it's nice to know the load is well capable of killing one at that distance.

Those look nice.

This is my 20 gauge from 40

It's an 8x9 duplex too. Shot high just like yours did. Seems like TSS always shoots higher for some reason.

This is what I'm excited about trying out though. I just gotta find a gun to shoot them with.

What constriction are you shooting on the rhino choke tube?

I believe it's a 670.

Brent, those look like some killers. I'm ready to load some 20 gauge loads along with the 12s.

What do those loads/patterns look like at 20-30yds where the majority of your shots are in the field?

Just wondering how tight those are and if you guys worry about them being too tight for the closer (20-30yds), more average shot distance.

Those are some tight patterns! That 2.25 oz load will be good to 80 yds. Its much tighter than my 2 oz load of 8s. I shot it Saturday morning and put 225 in the 10" at 40. It will range from 200 to 240 depending on the weather.

HeartofDixie, my load has a 25 yd pattern about the same size as a lead load. The ones in this thread might be smaller. Howton, you need to just shoot the turkey at 60 yds to make sure you don't miss. smile

He can't get them any closer than 60 yards. He's making up for other inadequencies.

You'd be two turkeys short last year if it wasn't for my "inadequencies". You should be careful talking to your role models like that. grin

I think it is inadequacies. I badly misspelled that. Either way I can and do kill turkeys without role models present.

Matt (JD) this is teetering big time on a jinx. Be careful my friend, one good year and a swollen chest can lead to many bad ones, if your not careful.

If the 2.25 load put 344 in the circle, and the 2oz load ran 340, I would save that extra quarter ounce and make an additional shell or two. That's about a 1% difference in performance.

Like others have suggested, I would be curious to see it at 20 yards. Is it consistent or does it leave a baseball sized hole in the paper? If you still get adequate coverage, that may be the ultimate load. Nice.
