Yep, know what you mean. Try getting enthused about hunting in Bama after hunting a week in Western Kentucky or Southern Iowa.

Felt the same was after hunting in western ky this year. I usually hunt about 4 times a week in bama after I got home ky didn't step foot in my woods for 2 weeks. Neither was I very optimistic, and the scenery wasn't as nice

I encourage everybody to leave the state to hunt........... Perhaps I could then lease land a little cheaper.

Kansas and Western Kentucky ruined me. I keep a lease here in Alabama to take the kids hunting and to turkey hunt, but my lease in Kentucky is what I really look forward to hunting.

Hunted Florida before. That count?

Have an open invite to hunt a friends farm in Illinois, just haven't took him up on it yet.

I thought Alabama was the best place in the country to deer hunt in. That is what about a hundred different people on here told me.

That place will ruin you. I'm picking up a couple places in KS and finding it harder to pay a lease of any kind in AL.

If I could somehow convince the state to align the school calendar with out of state ruts, I would be all about spending money to hunt out of state. Since I can't and it don't, I guess I will continue to concentrate on hunting Alabama and hope I live long enough to do some Midwest hunts with my son after he gets older.

wmd don't think for a second hunting the Midwest is not productive outside the rut. That is the worst misconception one can have about hunting up there. There is actually some very good hunting around our states school calendar. I will leave you with that little bit of personal knowledge, so do with it as you wish grin I would hunt my leases up there through Jan if I was not a married man and on the verge of a divorce by the time Mid Dec rolls around smirk. What's considered their late season is still better than most hunting you can or will experience in this state. My bama club currently does not apply to that statement but it's the only place I have looked forward to hunting after coming home from up there.

You are doomed....doomed my friend grin You better keep your head screwed on straight when you do come back down here to hunt...LOL. Your motivation will take a big time hit square in the kisser shocked On those mornings when it takes all you can do to get out of the bed will quickly turn into I'll just sleep in....I already have a couple Midwest studs at the taxi laugh Take that last sentence to the bank cause it comes from experience... wink Now are real sure you want that lease??? Larry, Steve and myself will be glad to save you from all those missed mornings of hunting you are about to expose yourself too this fall.... grin

I came home from my first bow hunt trip to Illinois and told my wife to pack, we were moving. LOL! The fact that we are still in Alabama shows you how well she listens to me.

It will ruin you though if you are a bow hunter. Bucks get up and move around in daylight. Out of 4 trips up there I honestly think that I have seen just as many bucks as I did does. The bucks get HUGE!! It's much simpler to figure out where to hang a stand due to the amount of field vs woods they have up there. And I swear the deer up there just aren't nearly as skittish as ours are.

I get all kinds of excited just thinking about going to Illinois this fall. There's nothing like some good mid west hunting.

I think this is a big reason why I just assume not going to the Midwest until I'm about dead. If I don't personally know its awesome hunting and the bucks are much bigger then I can just hunt Bama and be satisfied chasing 120-140 inch with the occasional 160 plus deer with a so so rut. And the more big bucks killed where I hunt the less I get the urge but it sure does look and sound like fun!

We are not perfect, only forgiven!!!

Having hunted the Illinois,Wisconsin,Ohio,Texas Missouri over the last several years I will agree with what everyone else has said. Deer do what that naturally do in the mid west. Like squeaky said the late season to me is probably better than the rut to me. When I come back to slabs I just have to mentally adjust myself to where I'm at and be realistic this is Ala friggin bama. State of kill all does and every buck you see for 5 months. Maybe people will get it one day

A bunch of people DO get it......

They go to the Mid-West to enjoy hunting the Mid-West!

You will look long and hard for funnels and pinch points between corn and soybean fields in Clarke County AL!!!!
