I know one of the collectors in Georgia some of the finest hard stone ever found... All legally found in Georgia rivers or on private land with owners permission. The will not and do not dig in Florida state land. I just wonder how the State can prove where it came from...

There are several ways, but the obvious method that comes to mind is having an undercover operative who has them on tape saying where the stolen artifact came from.

seems highly unlikely from the guys I know... But I guess that is up to the State to prove.

here is the break down of the charges...

Bottom line if you have an arrowhead from Florida, make sure everyone knows it's really from Georgia or Alabama!! wink

For the ones that destroyed the sites? I have no pitty for ya, but the guys that picked points up off the bottom of a river and sold it? Man that is total BS and wrong for it to be a felony...

I'm telling ya, Florida is the East coast Kali. An over-regulated, overpopulated, POS Liberal/Yankee encrusted state.

Sounds like some of the arrowheads maybe were found on the banks or in shallow waters of a navigable waterway. That's state property and you can't keep what you find on state property. A serious collector should have known better. They probably busted most of them with incriminating statements like "I found that one in 2004 on the banks of the Swanee River." Bam. Admission of a felony.

Crazy that the government went this far to nab people searching riverbanks though....

From what I understand it wasnt just looking around on the riverbank, more like trenching out a riverbank with a mechanical dredge.

Folks git bit messin with arras and arraheads. Specially if you have over 575 dozen of them.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

If they trenched and dredged out a riverbank the DEP an CORP will hang them for that alone.

Not that this is related but I thought that if an arrowhead is exposed on the riverbank that it isn't illegal to pick it up. It has little archeological value at that point.

TVA has some new rules from what I've heard and are cracking down on people walking the banks.

Nobody gets prosecuted for doing that, though technically that arrowhead belongs to whoever owns that property. Same as anything else on their property. If the property owner is the state, then its state property.
Its the flagrant looting that the state usually goes after to prosecute, in this case it appears it was state parks and on a large scale.

And TVA does not fool around at all, they are Federal and much less lenient than the states. From what I have seen from illegal dumping and other things on TVA land, I'm surprised the feds let anyone walk on TVA land anymore.

You think they watch people at the Guntersville dam? I've always looked on the bank past the boat ramp but have never seen any. I bet after they close some of the flood gates there may be some laying around. However, I'm not going to pick one up and go to jail for it crazy

Problem is, a river point is a felony. Problem is, its displaced and out of context "a page torn out of our history book" by Mother Nature.

Loggers do more damage to the bottom of rivers than a driver looking for points..

The kats that dig in the parks need to be slammed!!!

TVA collecting is a no no. All of the Ala Power lakes are OK for surface collecting. No digging in graves. I have been looking for years on the Al Power lakes. Lake G-ville will get you a fine. It is just a matter of time until someone will get it stopped everywhere. I have Creek blood, so I am just preserving my ancestors tools. LOL

Unless TVA has changed the reg you can pick up whatever is exposed but you can't dig even an inch down to uncover anything. I used to work on TVA Police comm setups and even got to see their evidence room where they had pictures from trailcams set up over dig sites. I specifically asked about picking up exposed points and they seid no problem but don't do what the folks in the pics were doing.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
