Sunday morning me and Claybird went over to a spot where Squeaky and Clays brother had went the day before and heard a turkey gobblin. Well, we got in early and sat down in the edge of the field, hoping to hear him and move accordingly. As daylight approached and the crows started up,we sat waiting for him to gobble the first time. All of the sudden a crow sounded off close by and I knew he would gobble soon and he did. About blew my hat off at 50 yards off the edge of the field, directly to our left. We weren't where we needed to be and couldn't move a muscle, I could see right where he was and knew he was looking right towards us. Finally got our face mask up and no sooner than we did, I heard wing beats and seen him pitch down between us and the field. I had carried the gun in for him and layed it down by me.When he hit the ground and I was sure he couldnt see us at all,I handed him the gun. I could hear em coming up the hill to our left and close, I looked over and Clay wasn't following the sound of the bitrd walking, like he shoulda been. These birds were 20 yards and fixin to be in our laps, I took a chance, without saying anything and reached over and moved his gun to the left, where I thought they would come out. Knowing they were gonna see us move, I took that chance anyway. As soon as I took my hand off the gun, I froze and seen him one of em walking up to the edge of the field. He stopped and looked at us about that time Iseen he was a long beard and told Clay to give it to him. BOOM!!! He give it to him em alright. Dead centerd about a five inch water oak, luckily enough shot made it around the tree to break him down, long enough for another shot to finish him off. It was 7:05 and we were standing over his first long beard, laughing and amazed that we didn't get seen.I've killed 90 long beards to date and I don't think any of em have been more fun than this one. I was still a lil shakey an hour and half afterwards,I've never been so happy to see a dead bird,in my life! Thanks Squeaky for guiding Lane Saturday mornin and finding that bird for us! LOL Seriously,I really do owe you one! We laid him on the roof of the rental car and each held a wing tip and drove up at his Grandaddy's house blowing the horn. After breakfast, we rode over to some fresh burned long leafs to look for a deer Clay shot the last day of deer season that we didn't have time to pu the dog on, before I had to get him home to his momma and school the next day. Looked in a spot we didn't think he would go and hadn't looked at, 20 yards in the pines and there was his deer. Mature 5x3 I had a lot of pics of from accroos the road. I'd say he had a pretty good day!
So weird.

Congrats to you and Clay. You owe me nothing buddy, it was my pleasure taking Lane Saturday. I knew the bird we heard had to be close to the field if I could hear him....lol.
