Did you stiffen the forearm? I always wondered if it would stiffen them just by filling the pockets, I always add a piece of aluminum angle.

i thought about stiffening it but i held the stock by the recoil pad and rested the front end on the kitchen counter and it never touched the barrel. also i still have not shot it yet. i am trying to figure out which scope i want and next i am trying to afford it. hopefully i will run across some deals here soon.

i also thought of just filling the pockets with epoxy. i think it would work as long as you drilled some holes in the ribs so the epoxy couldnt eventually pop out like ice cubes in a tray.

if you look on the home page of aldeer under guns guns guns, bamachem wrote a nice article on floating, stiffening forearm, and bedding the action. he used aluminum angle.

i cant see why you would float the barrel on a 7400, you arent going to accomplish anything. on a bolt action when you float the barrel there is absolutely nothing touching the barrel but on your 7400 you have the lobe welded to the barrel that holds the guide rod for the action spring. you wouldnt accomplish anything. basically you would only float something with a one piece stock such as a bolt action.
