Just read on the waff 48 news app that WIC is being accepted at farmers markets now. They receive vouchers in $4 dollar increments. They said the reason for this being done is that fresh fruit and vegetables is something that WIC participants need. What is yalls take on this.

I'd much rather see that money going to a farmers market and buying fresh goods than going to some big box store for moon pies and pop tarts. I guaran-damn-tee you that if I was in charge of that goat rope then the only thing you could buy would be stuff you have to prepare. Fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, dry beans and the like.

If I'm not mistaken that is all you can purchase with WIC plus formula for the baby.

Doninos takes EBT cards. I was behind a girl at publix Sunday. She had 70 dollars worth of groceries she put on the card and paid cash for her Budlight!

I thought I had witnessed folks buying junk with them but my wife told me that WIC is different than food stamps.

WIC is how the whole food stamp gig should be run.

I have used the wic program before twenty four years ago when my daughter was born that is how we got our formula...the sad part is I serving in the military at the time. Our enlisted men and women at that time and it is probably true today make so little that they qualify for the program. It was one of the first places the USAF hospital staff sent us when we left.

Everyone who is pregnant or has a newborn up to a certain age can receive WIC regardless of their income.

Working government contracts I see a lot of military folks using WIC.
It's a damn shame that some kid has to bust his ass all day long and then run out and deliver pizza's just to make ends meet. I don't begrudge them using WIC at all.

Piggly Wiggly had smoked boston butts and racks of ribs the other weekend. They are dang good, and very convenient. There was a big sign out there that said WIC approved.

It is hardly a strict program.

I know this is going to sound like a stereotype but I was in a convenience store last week getting a drink. The guy in front of me had two frozen pizzas and something else and it was just over ten dollars so he swipes his card and says to the cashier ebt, and puts in his pin number. When I left I saw him in the parking lot getting in an Escalade. Made me glad I pay my taxes as I got in my twelve year old truck.

They can get a lot more than just formula from WIC. My grandparents used to own a little country store, they can get milk, cheese, cereal, big cans of juice, and there were several other things as well. Some checks would allow them to get 2 and 3 gallons of milk. Now I drink a lot of milk but there aint no way I could drink 2 or 3 gallons before it spoiled.

Same here bigt. Every little bit helped on E-3 pay. The milk and cheese helped too.

Using the farmers market is a good idea.

Good idea IMO.
One of the better government programs out there. My wife is a clinic nurse for ADPH, WIC is one of her duties. If it weren't 5AM I'd get ya the scoop on it. wink
BTW, WIC..... W=women I=infants C=children

If I was in charge of the goat rope there wouldn't be WIC or EBT. The money saved would pay soldiers a decent wage and fund benefits veterans deserve.

The problem I have with it is the people who have 6 freakin kids by 6 baby daddies only for the money and get WIC along with every other government assistance when there are people who need it but can't get it.

Senior Citizens also qualify for the Farmers Market Nutrition Program. The receive 36 dollars in 6 dollar coupons. I want to say that the WIC program receives $80 worth but im not quite sure.

We have used WIC too, when our first child was born. We were both working full time and still made below poverty level income. It's a great program. I think its a great idea to add farmers markets.
