Do you guys use any lubrication on the outside of the shell when roll crimping or not?

Thanks

I don't. Just let it heat up before you apply pressure.
I have tried it before and didn't see any difference.

Thanks! I'm new to the process and thought I would ask since I knew a lot of folks on here were experienced.

Feel free to ask any questions.
Its really easy just takes a little time.
You will develop little ways to make it easier as you go.

What you shooting them in?

I'm sure it's not necessary, but I do put some stuff on the crimp tool when I first get started, but not on every shell...that actually probably makes them less consistent, so now I'm not gonna do that anymore. grin

OK, so I just finished one and the crimping is easy and the first one looks great. But I may just cut it open to get the shot out. The shot came over the tips of the wad.....before buffer. I rechecked weights, recipe, components, ect for a mistake and it is all by the book. Components were tamped down with a dowel.

How high does your shot come up in the wad? Can you still see the tip? Not sure if my concern is just overthinking it.

Plan on shooting it out of a '90 Ithaca DU Guide Gun 12G 3" with Indian Creek choke. Its become my dedicated turky gun over the years because I dont mind if it gets a little abuse.

Its fairly normal for it to rise over the was a little bit.
The way I understand it is if its a cushioned load it will sit back after fired.

Perhaps someone else can comment a little more on this subject, I have shot a lot of loads though my barrels and haven't seen any evidence of scratching.

I have seen it in some choke tubes.

That should be a fine turkey killer.
