This is the way my grandaddy done it I also do it this way and it works. We freeze ours in clear Karo syrup. We purge them in water, which also helps clean them, place them in a peanut butter jar and fill with syrup. The never change colors nor do the get mushy. When ready to fish get a couple out and place in water in a coffee can and use like normal. we have done this as long as I can remember.

A little bit easier way is to take a cooler of ice and water, mix in some salt, and throw the worms straight in the slushy mix straight off the tree. I bag them as soon as I get home and get them out of the water and in the freezer ASAP.

One pulps and molts above the cahaba river line and the other below it.

Best way to freeze them is in freezer bags with water. I've frozen thousands over the years. They won't turn.

Just seeing this topic reminds me of my grandpa. We caught a pile of catfish with them things. He made some cages with a coffee can on the top to keep them in.

We use to prune ours. They seem to like the new growth.
