I'm not in it for any kind of records, but would definitely register it if I ever get lucky enough to kill one.

It's easy for me to say that I would not, just like it's easy to say that if I won the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, the money wouldn't change anything about me. But until I'm wearing those shoes I dont really know. I feel with reasonable certainty, that I don't have to worry about either.

I always said the same thing. Now I have deer that would make the books and have yet to enter one. I went as far as calling a Pope and Young scorer to discuss setting up an appointment to have one officially scored and just never did for whatever reason.

I have 2 in the P&Y and glad I did.

I've got one entered and have another one that I had officially scored but never sent in the scoresheet and affidavit. I've got one that would make the MZ book too, but its not that important to me. I might get around to it one day. I have put a lot of thought into sending in my other P&Y since its a Bama deer.

I've got one bow kill in the AL book and another bow kill that would qualify, but I haven't entered it.

I dream everyday of killing a record buck. Would I register it... no. I grew up killing deer as food and horns were an added bonus. It would be one thing to show my friends on the wall this great buck I killed but I dont see the point in entering into a system so they can put my deer in a book for a simple pleasure that others will see it. If you think about it, who do want to show your buck of to, your good friends that will congratulate you on a nice kill or some guy reading stats or looking at pictures. Just dont make sense to me.

I've killed half dozen that will qualify for various record books, never entered any of them. Wife entered her first gun kill in the AWR book.

Great Post Seth, But, What if you carried your Grandbaby and he/she killed a record book buck! or what if they put it in the book for YOU! whats the difference! Its a book deer Why not list Him I love looking at Book Deer.....Nutz.....Doesn't everyone?.....

Ive killed pope and youngs with the bow and other big bucks as well..but never entered them in any kind of book.
I considered entering one of the bucks I killed last year in the AWR but decided against it too.

I shoot them for me...not for making records. Could care less about the record books.

I'd have to have kids first to get the grandbaby but believe me my son or daughter will be taught the same principles as I was taught. Are you killing a deer to impress others or are you killing a good deer for yourself. Ive personally never killed on for the record books and thats ok. Dads got a couple that would most likely go in there but whats the point. Your not devoting your time to kill the buck of a lifetime for John doe that wants to look at the pictures your doing it for yourself and in the end thats all that matters .

Yeeaa really.. I was thinking the same thing... What's it matter if you enter a deer.... You gonna get paid.. You gonna retire... You gonna quit hunting thinking you are the MECCA of hunting....It's a number.. That's all it is... It could possibly bring you more headache than glory...just ask around...

I have 2 pope an youngs and dad has 4 on the wall all northeast Alabama deer an none are registered. Like everyone else I grew up killing deer to put food on the table. I'm just as happy to kill a doe horns mean nothing to me. I'm just blessed to have good genetics at my land.
