Looks like 20-22 degrees in my neck of the woods on Thanksgiving morning. What's y'all's experience with movement at these temps? The colder the better?

Most activity will be about 7:30 til 11. Most movement will occur after the sun comes up and warms it up some. Thats been my experience anyway

Killed the last two Thanksgiving mornings. Plan on being in a skybox on the "eagles nest" of our cut over. Will have the 257roy on bags incase big daddy comes out on the other end. I love a good sunny cold mornin in a cutover. especially when that little limb at 400 yards turns out to be a rack.

Low 20s warming to low 40s, light air, with low wind, makes for predictable thermals in the mountains. Right in this hillbilly's happy zone. They'll be looking for acorns, but might get a bullet instead. smile

If you're in this camp, hunt the East or South facing slope.

Been my experience that on really cold, sunny days they love bed on the South slopes.

I've always had the theory that in our area of the world when we have these really hard freezes that the deer don't feed as much the second half of the night because they don't like to eat food plots that are frozen and covered in thick frost. Same with acorns and browse. So that sets the stage for when the frost melts off that they are ready to get out and get something to eat since it has been awhile since their last feeding. I can't tell you at the number of times I've seen deer on these type of days in my food plot here at home late in the morning after the frost melts.

Love the cold. the cold weather is alot better to hunt than the normal 60-70° we have had on thanksgiving the last few years.

Love the cold as well but Ill sleep in a bit. Hunt from about 7-11. I see very little movement when there is a hard frost on the ground. Usually see them starting to move on your way out when youre freezing from sitting since before daylight.

I don't normally hunt green fields in the morning but if you can get there while everything is froze over and be there when the sun comes out the deer will come. I have had good success with this. Good luck.

I killed my 2 biggest bucks in very cold weather. One time it was 18 degrees the other last year when it snowed. Last year it happened at 930 when all was melting, also he was tending a doe, so I love cold weather. Will be out tomorrow and can't wait.
