My wonderful wife listened this year and got me a Ruger 10/22 for Christmas. I wanted this gun just to customize. My thought was to put a fancy stock and bbl and a kid trigger group in. Since then I've decided to stay with a more traditional stock like the Hogue overmold. I'm looking at putting a lightweight Carbon Fiber bbl on this gun. Do any of you have an experience with these types of bbls? If so how do you like it?

Also I've toyed with the idea of adding a suppressor. What is the law on this? What should I expect in terms of cost?

Also if you have a customized 10/22 let's see pics.

I'm sure you will get a lot of good advice on here and you should also try rimfirecentral.com as it has tons of pics, builds, etc on 10/22's and other rimfires. I'm in the middle of my first build and got a lot of info on there. I started with a stock 10/22 (blue) added a Fagen stock, an adams and bennett .920 barrel, and rings and scope I already had. Next is reworking the trigger, a new bolt, extended mag release and adding a bipod and sling. Its been fun hope to be done next month. Good luck.

Suppressor will cost you $200 for the tax stamp plus the price of the unit and the transfer fees.

Wait on the stamp is about 4 months

rimfirecentral.com is the place to go for the other info

Liberals are of a mind that it's entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Thanks guys, I'm already a Rimfirecentral member. Just thought I'd ask on here too.

Can anyone explain the suppressor law a bit more in detail?

For lightweight barrel you can't beat the Tactical Solutions barrels. They are aluminum outside with steel core. VERY accurate. Stay away from the Butler Creek CF barrel. You can get trigger, hammer and sear packages/parts and install yourself lots cheaper than buying a complete trigger pack.

2 to 6 months approval times on the suppressor depending on the examiner.

I pretty much second Wiley and the Tactical Soultions barrels are nice but I prefer the Green Mountain Barrels. If you want to put a suppresor on it you will have to get someone to thread those barrels for you.

Everything I read says the Kid trigger group has no equal in the trigger world. Best there is.

What are we talking for a package to rebuild the trigger group and what type of performance?

This is a new Ruger with the plastic trigger group.

Check some of the sponsors on Rimfire Central. Connecticut Precision comes to mind and there are others. It's been a few years since I built one but it's very easy to swap parts in the trigger group.

I am thinking an OD green Hogue stock and OD green fluted bull bbl would be nice. I was thinking Carbon for weight reduction but the flutes may accomplish similar results.

On the other hand, I saw a desert camo dipped hangun on the forum earlier that looked awesome. I haven't actually felt the hogue overmold, and it looks like the texture wouldn't hold the dip. Might have to look at a different stock if I go that route. Could get the scope dipped as well.

The folks on RFC seem like to the Mueller APV so I'm gonna go that route.

I'm gonna go read about trigger kits. See what I can find out.

Guys post pics of your customized 10/22s.

The more I think about it, I don't really have a good enough reason to go through the effort of getting a suppressor. Just thought it would be cool. Appears you can't legally hunt with one in Bama. The gun range is gonna be noisy even if my rifle isn't making much.

I took mine and turned it in to a 17 Mach 2 from the components at EABCO; lots of useful info there; they've got it all for tricking one out; I also have the Mueller on it and a 22 Mag and have been very happy with them

For suppressor info: http://www.silencertalk.com

For 10/22, rimfire central is the place to read up on stuff.

There is a local guy here in Mobile that has a few 22lr suppressors in stock. He works out of a small shop at his house, so you have to set up an appointment. He'll let you sample some of the ones he has if you have a threaded host.

For the barrels, look hard at the TacSol barrels that have the threaded end. They are light, accurate, and you won't have to pay an additional $80-$100 plus shipping to get your barrel threaded later. If you don't get a suppressor, then no harm done. If you do, it saves you TONS of wait, money and headache later.

A couple of hosts with TacSol barrels. The 96/22 actually has a 10/22 barrel. Dremel cut an additional slot in the barrel across from the extractor for the cartridge support and it drops in just like in a 10/22

They don't make it in a .22LR any more. Very hard to find and run about $375 if you're lucky. That one was new but had had been dropped in the pawn shop and front sight broken off and stock dinged a bit. I knew I wanted to do the barrel conversion so I haggled and got a bargain. Ruger still makes the 96/22mag and 17 I reckon but alas, no more LR models

Once you get the NFA sickness the only cure is more NFA toys. TacSol has great stuff butthe last 10/22 I built was a Lilja drop in barrel and Volquartsen receiver and FCG. Stick with quality stuff and you will be much happier. Check Brownells they have a bunch of parts for the 10/22.
