My wife and I got in the woods for the first time together this season this afternoon and had a great hunt. Needless to say she shot a nice big nanny. Followed good blood for 50 yds and bumped her about an hour after the shot. Heard her go about 10 yds jump into the creek and never make it out. Heard her thrashing in the water and backed out when it got quiet. I'm sure she's not gonna make it out if that creek tonight. Anyways my question is its gonna be a low of about 42 tonight. Is that cold enough to keep her good until I can go get her first thing tomorrow morn? I would assume I she's in the creek the cool water would help?
Found her this morning dead in the creek not 10 yds from where I left my marker when backing out last night. Both shoulders were broke dont know how the heart wasnt blown up. Meat was all still good and the yotes didn't find her. I'm guessing cause she was almost under water!

I'd be in there trying to get her out right now. I wouldn't be chancing wasting the meat at those temps.

find her early and for sure no probs, esp if she is in the creek. Maybe the damn yotes won't get her if she's in the creek.

The temps are fine, the coyotes are another story. If your area is anything like mine, I'd say you've got a 50/50 shot of them eating her before daylight.

I wouldn't have left her.

Give it a couple hours after you jumped her and then i would go back in and look for her.

Go back. Chances are she's expired and if like here the yotes will have her eaten by morning.

Found her. Bhamfred was right she was almost under water and I think that kept the yotes off her

Let us know how the meat turns out. Many of us don't experiment and the temps were too warm for me to wait overnight. The nose may not always know, but it'll play head games on whether I plan to eat it!

A sustained 42 degrees is one thing. But getting down to from a day in the 50-60's is different.

It was 49 when I left the woods last night at about 6pm. She was on ice by 7:30 this morn and the temp was 45 leaving the woods. She was in the water so I assume that prob helped keep the meat a little cooler. Ill let you guys know how it turns out when I cook some backstrap up later this week.

Ate some meat from my wife's doe that I let lay on a questionable night, and it was all good tastes great and Didnt get sick! So for future reference overnight at 45 in creek water won't spoil the meat.
