Was able to get a good cull buck out of the herd yesterday. We've been under very strict trophy management on our 37 acres the last few years and I was glad to get rid of this one. Hope he didn't spread too much of his seed. I just hope none of those inferior genetics one horned bucks show up off the neighboring club. Having a hard time getting rid of all them.

I wouldn't call him a cull.. I'd call him a fully mature buck!! Looks like a 4.5+ year old buck from the pic to me..

Congrats!

90% of deer killed as "cull bucks" actually have damaged pedicles or injuries. Genetics are normally fine. I can send you the link from a study at auburn university that proves this. Great buck no matter cull or not. Congrats.

Here we go.

Looks like a high fence deer and also appears to have been ran by dogs.

Dogs inside a 37 acre high fence would be good times.

Glad you took him out, but I'm afraid you're pissin in the wind. Takes at least 60 contiguous acres to truly manage for trophy bucks. 80 or more is ideal.

What he's not saying is that 37 acres is a club that has 5 members to keep the cost down, also 7 greenfields on it.

No fence. This is free range. I think the neighbors have been corning the fool out of them this year. We've been out there several days a week all season and haven't seen a good shooter yet.

Did you shoot his mom too? Did you at least let him finish nursing?

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

Just asking. How do you manage 37 acres?

Plant food plots, feed protein and corn, shoot plenty of does to keep the sex ratio good, kill the inferior bucks early and often, let the good gene bucks grow up and then shoot them. Works well for us.

That is good question. I've asked them the same thing before. You should see some of the dang deer they take off that place. Its incredible. I'm on the list to join if someone backs out. I think I'm 5 in line.

Good looking buck but please stop while you're behind. You have zero clue what you are talking about with genetics.

Good luck managing 37 acres! I've got 900 contiguous acres and I believe that's too small to really impact the deer. Unless your neighbors are all doing the same. I'd say in bama you'd need atleast 3000 acres to truly manage and turn into a trophy area. Your adjoining neighbors must have a good management plan. What was the hunting like before. I bet you could do nothing but not shoot young ones and kill the same type of bucks you are now. Unless of course your on an island

Neighboring properties are all leased out to high dollar clubs that feed all year. How else are we supposed to manage? Can't increase our acreage. slap

I can safely say that you won't see any one horned deer on your property.
