Wiley, Comparing Game Check's reports to the total deer killed in prior seasons as shown on the DCNR's annual reports, there has only been approx. 5.5% of the usual total number of deer killed so far this season. Republican appointees to the Advisory Board are obviously decimating our whitetail deer resources with their forbidden legislation. 49er you are one of a kind...thank GOD! They try to get good data. You work to have it destroyed. They have to replace it with a voluntary system...which they have had for years. And then you complain about it not working. And then you (once again) blame the CAB for destroying the deer herd. Do you check under your bed each night for monsters? The Game Check numbers are down because it is VOLUNTARY! VOLUNTARY will never work.

This, I haven't even gone deer hunting yet. Hunter numbers are down on area WMAs.

The processor I use says his numbers are on par with previous years. This is in Covington County.

Elkhunter, They try to get good data. You work to have it destroyed. They have to replace it with a voluntary system...which they have had for years. And then you complain about it not working. And then you (once again) blame the CAB for destroying the deer herd. Game Check is nothing more than than an answer to Joey Dobbs' continued insistence on some sort of system to enforce the buck limit/antler restrictions that have been in place since 2007-08... six full seasons ago going on seven.Where are the reports on what we have gained for our sacrifices to our hunting rights due to that 98% reduction in the bag limit on bucks? How has it changed the buck/doe ratio statewide?
How has it changed buck age structure statewide?
How has it changed population density statewide?
How has it improved habitat statewide?
None of these questions have been answered. Reckon somebody got the cart before their horse? They didn't have the data then, and they don't have the data now. They don't need data to conduct wildlife management on lands where our laws have reserved that option to US. We can do our own wildlife management experiments if that's what we choose to do. Let them stick to collecting data and conducting wildlife management experiments on WMAs like the law authorizes, and leave our hunting rights alone.

Elkhunter, ... 49er you are one of a kind...thank GOD! From the looks of Game Check compliance, looks like I'm part of about 94.5% of Alabama's hunters who are glad there are not many who think like YOU. The majority of people in our country agreed in our constitution: Constitution of the United Stated of America
Amendment V
No person shall
be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
There is no due process of law when hunting and fishing seasons and bag and creel limits are being set. Code of Alabama 1975, 41-22-3(9)g.6 excludes hunters and fisherment from the "minimum protections" of the Alabama Administrative Review requirements. We are also due just compensation for the restrictions already in place on our hunting rights. Further restrictions are out of the question.

Just how do you expect them to get any data 49er?
you complain that they do not have it and then complain if they try to gather it
you wan't a free for all like years ago when the population was almost killed off thru year around uncontrolled hunting

you wan't a free for all like years ago when the population was almost killed off thru year around uncontrolled hunting I don't expect them to collect data at all for wildlife management purposes except on lawfully designated WMAs. That is not a function of the DCNR. We've covered that over and over. My complaints were that they severely restricted our hunting rights without lawful authority and without even having the data to back up their claims that it was in the public interest when it was not. Seven seasons later, they now want to start "collecting data" to enforce those unlawful restrictions. Their proposal is an alternative to a tagging system that Joey Dobbs has been insisting on. It is being passed off to those who don't know the history of the debacle as a data collection system. I want the DCNR to follow the law, not to have a free for all like you falsely accuse me of advocating.

49er can't understand/admit that if GC had been mandatory it would have had a much higher compliance rate.

49er can't understand/admit that if GC had been mandatory it would have had a much higher compliance rate. You aren't telling the truth again, Barry. You're making a habit of that lately. I do most certainly understand that coercing hunters who don't agree with Game Check into compliance would make it look like there was widespread support for it and the restrictions on hunting that it was implemented to enforce. By making it voluntary, it's like a vote. You can choose to support their crap by complying with it, or you can vote against it by not complying with it. Do you understand what I'm really supporting now? The claims of widespread support of the buck limit/antler restrictions are being proven to be false by voluntary Game Check.

Eddie,
I am tired of you talking out of both sides of your head and basically calling me a frenquent liar.
You were bashing GC saying the numbers were only 5.5%. You didn't say squat about support/coercing. The lack of use of a voluntary program does not indicate support of anything. You are trying so hard to make points that are just your opinions.
The vast majority of us are smart enough to know that a voluntary system will not provide accurate data. Thus, it is not used. It has nothing to do with support.
