I usually don't shoot more than 5 or 6 times during a season. After cleaning the bore i shoot a fouling shot before i hunt with it. Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?

I've got a rem 551 that probably hasn't been cleaned in 30 years. Modern day powder is relatively clean I believe. The accumulation of cleaning oil is likely more detrimental than powder build up

It is still an old favorite and it is stupid-accurate with the original iron sights. I still use it for close-in hunting on occasion. Like SFC3 said, keep that chamber shiny or you'll start snatching case heads off and jam the next round.

Im gonna bore sight it and get it on paper.Then I might hunt with it.My dad bought it new in 1979 and I put a new scope on it recently.It will be hard to put the bolt acton down tho.

I clean the bore after 100 or so shots or when accuracy gets bad. I don't pamper my guns. They look like I've been driving T posts with them but they go bang every time.
