Burbank thinks it is.

He went to a deer seminar once where a "trained biologist" told him everything he needs to know. rolleyes

We have average about 6 does a year on 3800 acres the last 11 years. You would think they would be like maggots running everywhere not so! I believe 100% the coyote factor is a lot bigger than anyone thinks.

I saw 3 mature does yesterday (the last day), and not a single buck.
Thursday I saw 5 mature does and 1 spike in a totally dif area. I don't think it's very likely to over harvest does when most people I know just watch them while waiting for big daddy to show. I attribute it to people not hunting effectively by sitting in shooting g houses watching a GF. Deer figure out the GF thing really quick and adjust. I know I've been guilty of watching a Gf and then complaining about not seeing deer in the past. Put a camera out in February over corn and it won't lie. Either you have deer or you don't.

You bet it is. We have several factors where you and I hunt that keeps us from seeing them thick as maggots, yotes have become a big one. Add changing food from week to week, human pressure with the thick, rough terrain to hide in and those you do have can become hard to see in daylight. I've started rethinking my doe harvest numbers and coyotes are the main reason.

This was the worst year I've ever had for food plot hunting. I figured out they were using the plots when I wasn't there, between 11:00-2:30. That's a fact. I wouldn't see deer in them at all in the afternoon, and they would fill up while everybody else was eating lunch.

Saw some of the same at our place. I started doing mid-day food plot stalks. And when we went to a plot about 2-3 for a PM hunt, the deer were already there many times.

Saw the same thing at our hunting club. I saw more deer this year between the hours of 9-1 than any other time. Let a really nice get by me a couple weeks ago at 11:00 am while I was making a sandwich for lunch.

I heard this more this season than in the last few years.

25 years of hunting from dawn to 9 a.m. and 2:30 to dark might have edjumacated the deer.

This was one of our worst years ever also. Usually always pick up a good buck or two scent checking GFs sitting with the boys, but not this year. Scrapes like crazy everywhere, bucks on cameras, but nothing in the GFs. I attribute it to the best acorn crop I've ever seen plus baiting law. I've already got my plan in motion for next year though. Adapt and overcome.

I asked those questions 20 years ago when I first started hunting in Alabama. Every club I was in growing up in Mississippi had buck and doe quotas that were set every year by the timber company biologists based on previous year data and historical trends. The bucks still had to meet certain requirements and you weren't guaranteed one just because you paid your money.
