How was the rut in the areas you hunt this year versus years past? I've heard from almost everyone that this seasons rut was abnormal and deer movement was different from previous years. Please keep it simple and as short as possible.
Madison county, AL. Rut started early and trickled the rest of season and never saw some does split from fawns. Killed one late season that was still lactating. Very odd rut and deer movement this season. Giles county, TN. Rut never seemed to kick in like years past and deer movement was very odd and irratic. What rut I saw seemed to be a few weeks later than usual.

I can't even understand what happened at our place. I'm going to speak with a biologist, and hopefully I'll be able to post on this topic.

Chilton cnty bucks started cruising the week of Christmas and continued till about the 3rd week in January. 4-5 bucks over 2.5 off 10,000 acres the older bucks never showed up and very little chasing. Deer movement was good for me but others saw very few.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Only chasing that we saw was on last day of season. They truly started on January 31st. This was in Coosa County.

SOuthern Tennessee was right on schedule.
Probably the least amount of activity witnessed by hunters. But it happened. All indications were there except seeing it.
I actually had an estrus chase on November 16 one night. I think I had near 100 pics of the same four bucks and one doe. Some pics the posture of the deer made it obvious what was going on. That was early for us by 10-12 days.
By December 15, the doe groups were back together and bucks feeding again.
Saw some scrapes opened up last week and a few fresh rubs as normal in late January. They seem to hit another spurt as their antlers start shedding. That has already started also with some younger bucks.

We have been seeing young bucks cruising and following does for about 10 days. I saw a shooter slipping up a fire break Sat. morning and another one follow 4 does in a plot right at dark Sat afternoon. They both were 7 points and got a pass. A member killed a nice 8 point Sat morning following a doe on a plot. He looked to be 4, but was rut weary. Only weighted 162 with 2 antler tips broken. Deer seem to be moving the best in the middle of the day. Overall this has been a slow year, but we still have till Feb.10th.

In Montgomery County, I saw 3 or 4 does that were about to come in and had the attention of a few bucks. But we didn't see any hard chasing at all. Heard a few bucks grunting from time to time, but as usual our rut will peak in the next few days while we are sitting at home. Hopefully next year, they will extend the season to include Montgomery County as well.

Later than usual in Coffee County. Seen younger bucks cruising the last week. Big boys were still nocturnal. Shot a doe last day of the season and her hocks were slighty dark... none of the young bucks stunk. Scrapes were minimal compared to years past
It's a sanctuary.

Lamar co. , no hard and heavy weeklong rut in any of the areas that I hunted this year. saw does with little ones all season long. Only saw a few small bucks chasing sporadically. Numerous times I saw a large group of does (5-8) with nothing following them.
