I went yesterday and looked at a hunting club. It is 1400 acres and looks pretty good, lots of younger pines and thickets with hardwood ridges all through the property( mountain terrain). My dad and younger brother are in the club with 12 other people, a couple of them I know real well.
I've never been in a hunting club, the price is 700 the fist year and 600 every year after that. Your required to do 6 days of work days during the summer. Clearing roads and planting plots are the bulk of the work. The rules are a little odd to me... You can only shoot 2 does during bow season and one during rifle, no does in January. The first buck can be anything but the next two have to be 8 point or better. I don't agree with those rules. The main reason I want to join is when my boys get old enough to want to start going with my I'll have a place to take them.
In y'all's opinion would this be a good investment? The only real issue I have is the doe limit, the way my dad talks this place is over run with does and most of the other members don't even hunt it during the season. He says when he goes out there he has the club all to himself for the most part.

If you don't like the rules, don't join.

The fact you'd be hunting with you Dad would be a major factor to me.

6 deer would be plenty for me.
Grandma said...Always keep a gun close at hand, you just never know when you might run across some varmint that needs killing...

That is very cheap. I would try it out next year and see what you think. If you don't like it, you move on to somewhere else.

$700 for 14 members on 1400 acres is about right but a little low on acres per member for me. If I was joining for my kids to hunt it wouldn't be a place for me with the doe limit and only 3 bucks. If you have more than one kid hunting one is gonna get shafted and not kill a doe and one won't be able to shoot that buck he sees that's a six since the other one already did. Just my opinion though.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

If you don't like the rules, don't join. ^^^^^^^^This unless hunting with your dad is a big enough plus to out weigh your dislike of the rules.

Like I said I've never been in a club before That price is very reasonable. Especially if they have a lot of deer and trust me when you start taking them kids hunting you will be glad there is a lot of deer to keep the kids interested.

You should also ask how many TOTAL GUNS get to hunt there. Other guys may have family members hunting , too.
Are there any deadbeat brother in laws as perpetual guests, 40 year old sons still living at home and hunting on the family plan, etc.
Do a little asking around the rest of the membership first.
