Hey you bass boat guys. I just bought a lowe alweld boat its a 2003 model. It has a 2010 Yamaha 90 four stroke on it. I want to put a 4 blade ss prop on it. What Pitch do you think it will take? I have not run this boat yet the guy that I bought it from said it was under wheeled bad.

You looking for speed...power...or combo... I run a 25 on my Yamaha 225 and it perfect for me... Comes out of the hole quick enough with enough top end speed... Smaller boat not pushing as much weight you could probably go with a 27 unless you just want a fast hole shot...

Its a 90 hp, I want a lot of hole shot, don't really care about top end. Im thinking 17 or 18.

21 may do the trick on that boat.... Especially if you get one that has a little cup to it... It will have a better hole shot and not lose as much top end speed as a 17 or 18....

You don't have to go as low a pitch as you think if you get one with some cup to it...

A working tach is a must when setting up a prop. After you get the tach working run it wide open and make notes of your rpm, mph, and water pressure. Ideally you want to turn max rpm with a full load for best performance. I don't know what your motor is rated for, around 5500-6000 rpm. 4 blade will generally carry a heavy load better and handle better but will give up a few mph on top end.

I would check out the setups page in the bass boat central website. Tons of Info on prop selection.

Get a tach first and foremost but IMO the sweet spot on that combo is Goin to be a 19.

I just found a computer online that I was able to put the motor and the boat info into and it said, low in torque and heavy loads 13.25x17 and top end performance 13.25x19. I want a 4 blade because I will one day have a hydro jack plate and I fish the flats a bunch, I will need hole shot. Yes I will make this bass boat a salt water boat. It has a very beat up ss 13.25x15 on it now, and the previous owner said it was bad under wheeled.

What size is the boat? I have an 1860 G3 with a 90hp Mercury and run a 21p stainless prop. Plenty of power coming out of the water and good top end. I ran a 19p in aluminum on it in the past before going to a stainless prop. The stainless doesn't flex under load like aluminum which will allow you to go up in pitch.

Some boat shops will loan you some props to let you test and tune your prop situation if you are buying the prop from them.

I ended up just guessing and put a 19 pitch 4 blade SS on it . I still don't have a tach working but good performance all around and it topped out at 44 mph.
