![](http://i1157.photobucket.com/albums/p593/hunterturf/20140308_073755.jpg) My little buddy killed his first turkey this a.m. gobbled maybe 20 times and marched to his death. Ive called up his dads first turkey two years ago. We heard this bird answer around 7:30am after we started walking a 600 acre section of hardwoods. He was in a hole and hard to pin point exactly where he was. Finally figured out which ridge to take to get above him. In the process of sitting down he answered less than 100 yards. I rushed to get my little buddy set and ready. I pointed the gun to where I thought he would come up the ridge. We were both sitting at on one tree and I was in his ear the whole time. I started hearing him spit and drum about a minute before I saw his fan coming up the hill with the sun at his back( there is no prettier thing in the world than that ) I whispered to him there his is....where?? Right there.....where at??. Right down the gun barrel!!!!! I dont see him.....buddy, he is in full strut at 30 yards. This whole time he is behind the ONLY BUSH IN ALABAMA WITH GREEN LEAVES!!!!!. he walked a mile in a 2'x2' square just spitting and drumming. The whole time I was saying do u see him now???......no. he did this for 15-20 min. Gobbling every 5 minutes or so. I was shaking so bad you could hear it when I was whispering. He needed to take 5 steps left or right to have a shot. Finally he walked out from behind the bush and BOOOOOOOOOOOM. I grabbed the gun and put it on the ground and took off running. When little buddy got to me and the bird I gave him a giant hug and asked him what he thought about it. He said it was awesome and that his heart was racing ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) I will be the first to say I get tore up when I kill a turkey but this was alot worse. The turkey would have been dead 30 minutes earlier but when you dont have a gun and have to tell someone what to do it is agonizing and frustrating but incredibly rewarding when it comes together. Take someone hunting who has never killed a turkey, there is nothing like it. Carry on fellas.

First bird in the state probably. Congrats.

Congrats....I take it they are ready to go. Was worried about them being slow with the lack of warm weather.
