Took a younger family member hunting today for the first time he is 10 so I wanted him to enjoy it. I have been listening for two weeks and went 2 weeks ago and walked through the property and didn t have much to go on other than a few gobbles. We got their before daylight and he wanted to hoot which he is not bad actually. I had to say no we are only gonna say a prayer for a gobble and sit tight. Well I quit counting at 50 and he was gobbling another hour after that. My hunting buddy said you only prayed for one gobble that was like 100 but the first one scared the stew out of me! He gobbled from daylight to approx. 8:30 hard I have only heard one other bird gobble more and he didn't quit until after 12:00. I did fly down cackle and a few yelps was trying to do the silent treatment as someone mentioned on here recently. He was loaded and ready gun pointed in that direction but ol' tom was a no show. The good thing is the kid is hooked he already asked if I was gonna take him after youth weekend the bad no turkey again. The property is very hilly with some of the deepest hardwood bottoms I have ever seen but the turkey seemed close. I went to the clover plot where I felt he was going and he was gobbling a little further heading that way but just wouldn't quit gobbling. He must have a strut zone somewhere that is unknown as of right now. Does anyone have any suggestions we are gonna try before sunday school in the morning. Sorry for the long ramblin post the original question was, what is the longest yall have heard a turkey gobble and approx. how many times?

A few years ago I hunted three gobblers with a couple of buddies from sun up to 3:00 pm. We finally killed them at 3:00. That was the longest hunt I've ever had working one or a group of birds, and those birds gobbled the whole time

Well we went this morning and must of heard 8 or 9 different gobblers for about an hour and a half. They were HAMMERING. Theyre were hens all around us, and everytime they made a noise they just went at it. The longest I have ever heard a bird gobble was about three hours. Of course I didnt get him because I was inexperienced and didnt know when to shut up. Te best thing to do though is after he cuts you off a few times, just shut up and get the gun up and wait at least an hour. Its extremly hard to get them out of those bottoms. The biggest thing I struggle with is setting up. Its difficult to get the shot off, but everytime you go hunting, you learn something new. Trust me. Think of what you did wrong, or couldve done differently, and set up differently the next time you go. Good luck to yall! thumbup

My dad is the type he can keep count in his head and remember it. I've checked it multiple times and he is always right. I called in a bird 2 years ago for him that gobbled over 500 times killed him a little after 9

If he answers you, he knows within 6" of where you are. Sit where you cant see further than you can shoot. It sucks and isn't fun not being able to see far but if you cant see him, he cant see you and will come looking.

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

I've always done that too...even if it's subconcious I'm counting gobbles most of the time. Heard one 28 times this morning and another one once. And that's good for high elevation Cheaha Mountain in Talladega Co this early in the month.

I was gonna say a few seconds at a time.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Best thing to do on a bird that is generous enough to gobble that much is use the gift he is giving you. You can tell exactly where he is I he's that vocal, so move to the perfect setup. Circle him or go to the side you think he wants to go, and get close. And the easiest mistake of all..... Don't overcall, it's really easy to get excited when they are hammering like that, but your not out there to see how many times you can get him to fire off. You just have to learn how to gauge his actions, best bet is to call less, and if he won't come to you try him from a different side.

This is the way, if he's gobbling like that and not coming to you your best bet is like he said to keep moving till you can bushwack he's tail. A bird that gobbles that much has got it coming.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Another story about my old man. We had this bird that roosted in the back of the holler where two Jackson county mountains meet. He would do the same thing everyday, im 99.99999% sure it was the same bird day in an day out. Back to the story where he liked to stay was pretty much cliffs with two benches about 15-20 yards wide. He would never gobble on the limb but when he made it to his little hole in the cliffs he would gobble his head off. Well finally we had listened to it all we was gonna do. I killed a bird early one morning and when I got to him I could see dad coming around the mountain to see what I had killed he was trying to find another bird that had been gobbling good every morning but he didn't ever gobble. Well the cliff bird fires off. We ease around that way on the mountain. Across from him and we figure out he is on the lower bench. Dad has always been able to take his time and walk quite so I told him I would keep that bird there an you ease around an get above him an ambush him. Lo sit down on a rock an let the bird have it. As soon as he would get done gobblin I was cutting at him again it was a lot of fun messing with him. Scanning the hill with my binos and cutting on a mouth call I finally pick out my dad moving he got right above the bird an started toward the edge. Everytime the bird would gobble dad would take a step closer. It took 15 mins to cover the bench to get to the edge but when he got to the edge the bird was behind a rock and when he came strutting out he met a load of 5's. Two birds by 9 solid gobbles from on the limb till then.

Great Advice...
