Reports are saying it took a low altitude and made it into the Malacca Strait.

Why would the passengers phones still ringing when you call them? If they were under water wouldnt the phones just go to voicemail? This is a weird one, maybe there is still hope

It's pretty strange that they have found absolutely no debris. You would think something would have floated up. Even if the plane remained totally intact and sank after trying a water landing, you would think that the fuel tank vents would leak and create a slick. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

That cool...I just tried it. It looks like everyone is trying to use it at once and bogging it down...I'm gonna try again later.

Seems like in today's technology with everything being tracked by gps like our cars, cell phones and such a dang airplane would be track-able.

They are - unless the pilot turns off the transponder. The transponder was turned off on that plane. They're saying that the transponder was turned off, the plane decended rapidly from 35k feet, made a turn from a NE heading to a W heading, and was not visible on civilian radar and did not respond to radio traffic.

Could be an electrical issue knocked out nav and radio at the same time (highly unlikely) and they turned back to try to find a place to land. Could also have been an intervention of sorts by passenger(s). Could have been the pilot(s) decided to go nuts. We probably won't ever know to be honest. If it made it into the Indian Ocean, it probably won't ever be found except for random pieces of debris.

I don't understand why the transponder can be turned off by someone on the plane. Seems like that is something that should be on all the time so if something catastrophic happened they could locate the plane.
