Very strange story indeed. With the fuel onboard to reach Bejing, it could be in Africa or the Middle East, or anywhere within a few thousand miles. No telling where it is.

Now we have a ship heading to the Indian Ocean to investigate a possible crash site. This story just keeps getting weirder by the day.

The Kenyan is being suspiciously quiet. Muslim involvement comes to mind.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I predict that they will "find" it, but out of respect for the victims they will not release any photos. Sort of like the Bin Laden crap they pulled.

I bet one of our submarines or China's submarines found it a few days ago, now they have to figure out to get some random fishing boat to find it so they dont give away what the subs were up too. They will "magically" find it within the next two days in a place that has already been looked at a dozen times.

Read a report this morning that US officials believe it may have flown for as many as four more hours after losing contact. That's a long way from where they're looking now, officially looking.

I think it definitely was planned and is a terrorist deal.

Cruising speed for a 777-200 is 562 MPH. It flew for at least 4 hours, possibly more, after radio and transponder darkness. A fully-fueled 777-200 has a range of more than 5000 miles, and more than 7000 miles if it's the 777-200ER.

It could be in Somalia, Ethopia, Iran, Pakistan, Libya, etc. No telling where it is. You need about 8000ft X 400ft of open space to get it off the ground after landing, and then you would have to be able to cover it so satellites can't see it during the search. An abandoned airstrip in some third-world country that has a hangar would be the first place I'd want to look.

I have my tinfoil hat on, but I don't think it was an accident and I don't think it went down. I'm suspicious of the two Iranians, and maybe even at least one of the pilots as being in on it.

Take that plane to a remote location and get rid of the passengers. Paint over the logos to disguise the plane. Truck in some stolen Jet A over time. Load the fuselage with nuclear medical waste and ammonium nitrate. Fly it anywhere within 5000 miles to a large city and nose dive it into the asphalt. The results will be catastrophic to the world economic system and would create an environmental disaster.

I'm wondering if some fanatics aren't planning something like that for Israel, and using the jetliner to get it through their defense systems.

We have had enough time pass and are overdue for something big terrorist wise IMO. Other than the terrorism in the white house.

And if it shows up, full of nuke stuff, en route to it's target and a country shoots it down then it still has the same effect as if it crashed as planned with the nukes.

BChem, For radioactive isotopes that have shelf lives of hundreds or more years, where and what are they safely stored in? What materials are the containers made of?

I've got a few pilot friends that postulate that exact terrorist scenario.

Tom Clancy wrote of Airliners being used as weapons well before 9/11.

It's extremely prevalent (every x-ray or radiological exam machine ever made), extremely dangerous (touch the radioactive materials and you can/will die from exposure), and it's easily accessable - removing the materials isn't difficult once you have the equipment it's contained in.

Cesium-137 for example. Get within 3' of a sample and stand there for about 18 minutes. You get a letal dose of radiation. It's that dangerous. Bad news is that it's used all over the world from medical devices to industrial instrumentation. http://emergency.cdc.gov/radiation/isotopes/cesium.asp

In North America, it's shipped to containment/disposal facilities. Who knows how easy it is to get in thrid world nations where there essentially is no government control. If you disperse it with explosives (no effect on the radioactivity), it creates a huge contamination zone as well as a radioactive cloud. Essentially you end up with a contamination zone that's too big to clean. You just have to cordon it off and let it deplete to safe levels over time.

I'm sure the majority of passengers had smartphones. So that would be hundreds of phones, can they not tap into none of the phones GPS signals?

The phones receive GPS signals from geostationary sattelites, but don't send anything back to them. In order to send the calculated location, the phone has to be connected to a wireless network that it has authorization to access. If you're not set up to have your phone work in a certain country, then the phone cannot access the wireless network, therefore the location cannot be sent. Besides, once you're upwards of 10,000ft elevation, you're too high to get cell signal over land. When you're over open ocean, there is no cellular service.

If you take over a plane, first thing you'd do after gaining control over open water is take all the phones because that's what the passengers used to find out about the 9/11 attack and decided to charge the cockpit.

This situation is best explained by a takeover of the aircraft. There is no debris, so it did not break up mid-air where signal was lost. It's not likely that it kept flying after losing cabin pressure because the pilots sould have been able to communicate, the transponder would have worked, etc.

Everything is pointing to the plane intentionally dropping below radar to evade detection for a prolonged period of time. It's not in the water.

In that area where it went off radar, radar only works above 30,000 ft. Why? Because the earth is round and radar is ground based. Radar waves travel in straight lines. Straight line-of-sight over a horizon hundreds of miles away means that you can't see anything at or near the surface. The farther from the radar base you are, the high up the black-out zone goes due to the relative curvature of the earth compared to the straight line of the radar waves.

This was very well planned and coordinated. Someone turned off that transponder and took the plane below radar contact. Why? That's the million-dollar question at this point.

If it was terrorist associated the guilty ones would be bragging all over CNN about it.
