You must hang the scalps instead of spurs and beards!!

Y'all who are getting info on "true Easterns" are getting your legs jerked off!! We never had any "introduced" turkeys here in AL. All our restocking came from Eastern populations - the majority from the Clarke county swamps.

I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

Ive killed easterns from New Hampshire, Ny, Pa, Ga, Al, Ms, Vermont, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, South Carolina, Missouri ... and Im sure I forgot a few states.. and all were "true easterns".

Ive only killed one eastern with no spurs and that was in really steep rocky mountainous terrain in NH, and the biologist at the check station ( you have to check them in there) said they get worn off going up and down those granite ledges...(it is called the granite state).

Ive killed merriams with little or no spurs too.

I dont know where the "true eastern" stuff is coming from to be honest.

By the way...nice hunt and story. And the heck with the spurs...you cant eat them anyway. I like the beard on him though!

I called one up for HighVoltage 2 years ago that had no spurs. Good bird, good weight and beard length, and gobbled his head off all morning long but no spurs at all.

Sometimes they just don't have spurs. I saw T Winters kill a 5-Bearded monster of a turkey in Iowa that probably weighed 24 pounds. Joker didn't even have a bump on either leg.

I killed a bird with a full fan and 11" beard with no spurs about 15 years ago. Couldn't believe it.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!
