Public land sucks now a days. I have said before, It needs to rain every Saturday the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season. It also needs to rain opening day. The Bluegill, Shellcracker, Crappie and bass need to hit their prime in the months of March and April.

I do not mind sharing the woods with other real turkey hunters like myself, because we are old school and practice common courtesy. But it is all the tards in the woods now, calling like a dog broke his pecker, storming through the woods blowing primos hoot flutes and stupid crows, shooting at anything they see red, white, blue, or black. I just got scared for my life from having to share with people like that.

I do not hunt public anymore until late season when all the posers quit.

Turkey hunters also need to learn the difference in what a real owl sounds like and what a person sounds like. What a real crow vs. a person. A real hen vs. a person. I don't care how good of a caller one is, you can still tell the difference if you listen to it enough. If there is any doubt in my mind that it is another man I get the heck out of there and find another spot.

You can tell by sound on some, but also listen for people hooting too much, crowing too much, or just yelping and cackling too loud and too much.

I get kinda angry just thinking about other yahoos on public lands.

The only situation that you couldn't help would be the trails that have access gates at both ends. You could easily meet another hunter by being the only one parked at your respective gates.

I hunt mainly public here in Mississippi. It has gotten worse over the years. I remember twice at the same gate parking 2 hours before daylight and just waiting. Granted there is a lot of land behind the gate, but only one bird gobbling in there. I am getting my bike and stuff ready and truck pulls in behind me. Old guy gets out and on his bike, and proceeds to ride right past me without saying anything. I let it slide that time and sure enough we end up at the same bird in which he spooks by getting to close.
Same gate different year, different truck does the same exact thing, except I tell them this time that we are hunting the only gobbling bird in there. I would appreciate if they hunted another spot. I know asking a lot on public, but I do not want someone pointing a barrel at me cause we hunting same bird. They ended up leaving, spinning out, and riding down to next opening and going in there. I have ran into great people who i gave exact location to a bird, and some who were "turkey hunters" and would cut you off in a heart beat. As long as they do not shoot me, I am ok with it. It just hurts when I bring my 4 y/o and really do not want to bring him due to the crazy ones.

You think there are rude people turkey hunting public land, you ought to try duck hunting in AR or MS. Absolutely mind blowing what goes on over there on public land.

I've met tons of respectable good people on public land turkey hunting in Alabama.

Now duck hunting is a whole different monster. It's gotten real bad at swan creek, i'm sure there are some on here who have experience at the creek.

I do not duck hunt. But I can see it being worse. I like Duck Dynasty and them people, but I can see how they can get a bunch of wanna-bes into the sport of duck hunting.

Lots of "duck hunters" are more posers than anything else.

Helll Alabama makes the metro look like a breeze. The average duck hunter in Alabama is a complete moron, atleast in Arky you only have to deal with south carolna tards. But Kansas takes the cake. Their locals are the most idiotic sobs I've ever encountered.

When I see a truck parked at a gate I just go to my next spot. I dont care how many acres are behind that gate. On a still morning you can hear one gobble a long ways off. The last three years I have hunted Cahaba and I have never had anyone move in on me. I hope it stays that way

Yea I agree!!! Let's keep it up and see how many MORE guys would have done as I would! Turn their truck around and go to another spot! It's good to see a majority of the guys on here think like I do!

JD,most real turkey hunters respect another hunter that got there first and would go to another area.I've hunted Bankhead 50 something years and have seen different levels of disrespect and stupidity .

Several years ago in a Perry County club ,two hunters sitting along a logging road decided to play with another club member approaching their position by gobbling on a snuff can,the final analysis was hunter # 1 lost both eyes and hunter # 2 lost one eye.

I always think about that sad event and take a road less traveled, seek another spot and live to hunt another gobbler.

from what Ive seen only 3 people would actually have acted like buckbrush...and one is his friend and co worker.

Id say most people on here would have practiced correct public land etiquette and driven down the road...not jump out and listen at a parked truck... park near it, and try to set up on the gobbling bird obviously being worked by another hunter.

And even more ridiculous...insist their actions were correct.

SMDH!

I grew up hunting public land and actually learned how to turkey hunt on public. I was taught by my brother when deering hunting public land move along if someone is parked in or near where I wanted to hunt. When I started turkey hunting that rule has always applied for me. I fully beleive in respecting my fellow hunters and I would hope they would do the same.

Jdawg you don't have to worry about me when your in that area. Outdoor I didn't cut anybody off for that bird. And I didn't cut JDawg off nor wood I I actually ran into him while I was making a move on that bird. And as soon as I saw him I waived and said yal got it. He gave me a thumb up and I left. Bird was still gobbling on the ridge. He then followed that bird to the next ridge were a dog came running through and messed him up. He was just frustrated and I can understand that's turkey hunting. He don't have to worry about me I won't be anywhere near his truck. But it kinda surprised me he was trying to blame me for him not getting the turkey when his pm said otherwise. But again he dont have to worry it won't happen again.
