Know all that you can about the company, what they make, where they sell it, etc. The more you know, the better you will be on your feet. Dress 1 level above how you expect to dress for the position, unless they gave you specific dress code.

Good advice. Look them in the eye, if you don't say sir and mam, might be a good time to start.

Do not wear any overpowering cologne. "Midnight Pasture" in close quarters is not a good thing.

I would learn about the electric arc furnaces that they use to melt scrap. I believe they were the first in the state to use that process. Seems to be where the industry is headed.

Don't end the interview with:

"Yall aints using them computers alots are you. I cants stands dem things.

I've got a ton of these questions.

I used to work for Nucor in Ft Payne. I was a draftsman for them. My cousin is a supervisor in the shop now. He said getting a job with them now is like pulling teeth compared to what it used to be. He said they have 3 interviews and with each one they rate you. They will continue to narrow the field until they get to one. Thats for a shop job, my drafting job came thru my drafting teacher. I basically had it before I got there.

It was an awesome place to work at. I just couldn't handle sitting in a room all day for ten hours with no windows. Drove me nuts.

It is a long process and like he said will usually be several interviews.

The first interview is to get a general background about yourself and to see what type of impression you wil make.

Operations is very production oriented place. Safety is always a good word.


Like said do not give any details about problems at work. You have heard its a great company with a lot of oppurtunites for people that work hard.

The first one is just to see if you make it into a pool of people to choose from honestly. Then from that point will be more job specific.

You would be amazed what some people will tell you in a interview. Every problem they ever had including some illegal ones.

You just want to leave a strong positive impression. Its a yes stack and no stack now.

Don't worry about that job, finish blinding my vessel so I can inspect it. Haha.

Nucor is a great place to work. Just go in and be yourself, like said above this interview is just to get to know you and your back ground. Walk in shake everyone's hand and look them in the eye when you answer their questions.

I work maintenance at NUCOR and our hiring process is a little different than production. Be confident, set up straight, look them in the eye when you answer, be team oriented, answer the question as best you can without rambling, and if you don't know the answer don't throw out a bunch of bs. They want safe people that safely work well as a safe team in a safe manner. And tell them you like to be safe... I might would watch the interview scene from Stepbrothers for some pointers.
