I killed a dang goodun this year in Kentucky with one of my best friends in the world! I decided to go ahead and get the gobbler mounted so I'd always have something as a reminder of just how special that trip was. Little to my surprise my taxi had my mount done in two weeks and what a FINE job he did! I still can't believe it! #blessed

Here's the one that I had mounted. Not my biggest bird and I really have no special story or reason as to why I got him mounted. I seen one mounted like this when I was younger and said I'd like to have one done like that one day so here it is. 11 1/4" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.

That is a right nice mount there. You ought to use it as a struttin decoy if you get tired of killin em, or put it in the garden to scare the crows away

I would get one mounted if I could afford a good mount. I had 26 lb. 11" beard, 1-5/8 spurs to get mounted in my freezer. But I didn't want to spend the money on a good mount, and the cheap ones looked like hell. So I finally just fan mounted with his beard and saved the spurs.

Wish I was rich. I don't want one to come back lookin like Spurcollecta's

Me too. The one I seen was hanging on an old barn door in a sporting goods store. The cedar that this one is hanging on came from the property where I grew up. The fox squirrel sitting on top of it is one that I killed the same year I killed the turkey. My taxidermist came up with the idea of sitting him on top of the post.

Just now saw the fox squirrel. Looks like he is colored different than most fox squirrels.

Rhett Kelly did this turkey for me two years ago, beard was over 11 inch and thickest I've ever seen! was an 1 1/4 where it came out of his breast. 1 1/2 and an 1 5/16 weighed just over 19lbs... Lowndes county Pasture turkey... I've got another getting done from this year, Looking forward to adding to my collection.

I killed the deer behind my old house in Ms. I found the horseshoes at my Great Uncle's old horse barn. The wood came from an old barn in the Natchez, Ms area. The turkey was the first Rio I ever killed in Oklahoma. That year there were not many longbeards and the hunting was tough. I spent 8.5 hours on this turkey before I killed him.

Bert Beebe is a taxidermist and a friend of mine. I worked there for 7 years while I was in High School and College. He only uses freeze dried heads, then airbrushed the heads. Bert is an avid turkey hunter, so he knows about how turkeys should look in natural poses too.

Anyone looking to get a mount done ought to look him up.

I decided while in college that I was going to mount the next bird I killed, regardless of beard, spurs, weight, excitement of the hunt, or any other factor involved. I just wanted a mounted turkey. So I did just that. I killed a bird with an average beard, average spurs, and on an average hunt. I wanted one to hang on the wall gobbling, not in strut. So here it is, 9 years later.

If we are going to bring the could've, should've, would've in to the discussion then I should have mounted the bird on the right. 12" beard, 1 5/16" spurs, and old as the hill he was killed on.

Don't let Yekrut fool you. He's a deer hunter at heart grin He has 3 deer mounted and zero turkeys.

I won't waste any more money mounting anymore pine goats and I've never killed a turkey big enough to mount yet. Maybe one day if will kill a good one I might consider it.

If I killed as many birds as trkymn6f0 I would have done killed a good one by now I imagine, but I can't compete with the man himself.

I'll have an Osceola and Rio full body mounted in a few months from this year.

Give me another 8-10 months; hopefully I will get my son's turkey back from the taxidermist by then.

If I killed as many birds as trkymn6f0 I would have done killed a good one by now I imagine, but I can't compete with the man himself.

yekrut dont worry i havnt got one mounted yet, got 2 deer mounted. However hopefully in about 7-8 months i will have my osceola and the monster national forest bird back. having them both in full strut and one facing to the right the other one facing to the left.

if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

Thanks Brad. This is Simons first bird. He hunted for 12 years before getting his shot. Simon is legally blind and will probably be totally blind as he ages. He is in New Jersey now getting his guide dog, so the finished mount is a surprise. He wants to complet the grand slam. I wonder if he would be the first legally blind person to do so?

I have one bird mounted full strut I killed when I was pretty young. I have since killed two other birds I would have considered mounting but did not. I am waiting on one of those sure enough long spurred multi bearded birds. I don't have any pics of the mount on my photobucket account or phone to share.

I have way more deer mounted as that's been my obsession for so many years. I just got serious about turkey hunting whistle

Now we're talking. I've been on hunting trips with foldemup too. He will get us there QUICK so we will have plenty of time for scouting and such.

Better get a big notebook.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Well, I can help you out there. He's fast. Real fast. I saw him run one down like a cheetah after a gazelle. I don't think he shoots half the ones he kills. He just slips up on em from tall grass and runs them down before they can fly. grin All the hollering "Help me" is just a diversion. LOL!

You got that right...I'm so fast lighting can't keep up. whistle I've had to run down one this year and was about to chase down my 2nd one when you saved me the trouble. grin

When I get that new Franchi dialed in with those 8's I'll have to find a new use for my lighting fast speed.

Once that gun is set up with some 8's you can take it easy, enjoy the moment, then stroll out to about 60 yds and pick him up. laugh

It means I already owe you half of those 9's and I'm sure the other half can be negotiated grin

I have been thinking about mounting a big double beard turkey I killed along with one of my Osceolas. I looked up that Mike Mizell guy in Fla. and he charges $750. I think that is a dang good price for the quality of work shown in that picture.

I agree foldemup, great looking bird.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Mike would be a good choice. He mounts a fine bird. I like the way he paints his heads, they don't look painted.

I'd pay just about whatever for my bird to look that good..... That's probably the best I've ever seen....

There's a couple of pretty impressive bird taxidermists in North AL but I'm not sure they are that good.

Shane Smith is the only bird taxi's work I've ever seen that would rival that.

It would be worth mailing him birds to mount.

I wonder if the others were outside if they would look as impressive as that one. May have something to do with it
If not it's the most realistic looking turkey mount I've ever seen

They would look better no doubt. Natural light makes those feathers pop.

Wow, I love those heads. Very realistic. As good a mount as I have seen.
