That sounds like me. Some weeks I may only pull a 20-30, other weeks, like in the Summer, I will do 80 to 100. It still averages out to about a 45 hour week through the year.

I'll be working 84 one week and 60 the next from the first of January to probably the end of March.

I'll tell you where it went. It takes twice the time to do your work with a smart phone in one hand, yeti in the other and a e CIG in between your lips. I am almost halfway joking. All jokes aside the younger generation can't keep up with the old on a days work.

I think with this new labor law requiring overtime for salaried employees under 50k, we'll see a whole lot of hourly paid jobs open up at a low hourly rate. It is going to depress wages and lower the value of most jobs. It's also going to give every employer with a large labor force an excuse to suppress their current hourly employees and pin down raises.

I know being raised southern and country, we were raised to be proud of a hard days work, and I know I've worked enough of them, but I will admit, it has gotten COMPLETELY OUT OF HAND in America. I like to work so it doesn't eat at me, but Americans do need a better work life balance. Just look at how little time we spend with our families compared to the time we spent with our grandparents when we were children. Our parents weren't ''logging in'' to take care of something urgent at work.

I'm salaried so I don't keep up with any hours. Just work til I get to a good stopping point each day or to meet any deadlines I might be under. I typically work about 40 hours a week in office or on the road, but frequently take work home with me to work on in the evenings, frequently have to run back to the office at night too or put in a couple hours over the weekend. her and there.

Some weeks though, I'll put in 60+ hours easily if on a big project or leave early mornings to drive out of town all day and not home before 10 at night for a few nights. Hours rack up with a few 16 hour days.

I try to balance work with family life. Being there for my wife and boys is very important to me, more than money. Most weeks I do fine, but sometimes there are some weeks I am hardly home it seems.

That right there is a big part of the problem. I'm off today, but I still had to "Log-In" and work for an extra hour and a half. Boo-freakin-hoo I know but it sets the precedent of someone never really having a true day off.

I'm salaried but on the clock 36 hours one week and 44 the next and I wish I could get by on 20 hours a week.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

With Technology, Employers have instant access to their employees at all times and instant responses are generally expected.
Also, it is generally cheaper for employers to pay huge amounts of OT to fewer employees, rather than put additional folks on payroll.

If I did only work 40, I'd be doing side jobs anyway. That's what happened last time I did have a 40hr per week job. I'd just as soon work 60-65 hrs wk. It's less stress that way. For me, the money works out about the same when I figure in the time and money to buy license, quote, purchase materials, do the job, accounting, pay taxes, etc.....

I only average a little over 40hrs/week @ work, but work another 10-20 at home. My at home work is typically after everyone else is in bed.

The NUMBER 1 regret on the deathbed in every poll ever taken:
"I wish that I had spent more time with my family and friends and less working."

If you are working 60hrs/week and not getting time off to be with your family, then you need to look for another job.

I spend family time, I just do without sleep. I am up at 3:45am and back in bed around 11:00pm. It's seldom that I get very much off of that schedule. It's been like that for the last 15-20 years.

I don't punch a clock nor keep time. I work every day to some degree then a lot of days to a lot of degrees. Then sun is my time clock and then some a lot of the summer. I like it that way.

If you love what you do, you'll never work a day. If you don't, change jobs

I work with just about everyone in my family that I want to spend much time with, even the younger ones hang out at the shop when not in school. They like being there and enjoy learning. I've been fortunate enough to mix family and work much of my life. Just a few jobs for short periods was that not the case.

It's all a balance. I work 84 hours on my work weeks (7 12's), but I'm off every other week. So to me, working 84 hours every other week is worth it to have 26 weeks of vacation a year.

I always heard the 40 hour week was created by the union. I was always told that long ago, you worked in the daylight and got paid per day. Dawn till dusk. Obviously you worked longer in the summer than winter and got paid the same. People probably worked longer hours long ago.
