I like a job that goes in waves. I'm about to wrap up a 6 week stretch where I have worked between 80-100hours every week. 3 months ago, there was probably the same stretch where I worked no more than 30 hours a week. That sounds like me. Some weeks I may only pull a 20-30, other weeks, like in the Summer, I will do 80 to 100. It still averages out to about a 45 hour week through the year.

I'm salaried so I don't keep up with any hours. Just work til I get to a good stopping point each day or to meet any deadlines I might be under. I typically work about 40 hours a week in office or on the road, but frequently take work home with me to work on in the evenings, frequently have to run back to the office at night too or put in a couple hours over the weekend. her and there.
Some weeks though, I'll put in 60+ hours easily if on a big project or leave early mornings to drive out of town all day and not home before 10 at night for a few nights. Hours rack up with a few 16 hour days.
I try to balance work with family life. Being there for my wife and boys is very important to me, more than money. Most weeks I do fine, but sometimes there are some weeks I am hardly home it seems.

Our parents weren't ''logging in'' to take care of something urgent at work. That right there is a big part of the problem. I'm off today, but I still had to "Log-In" and work for an extra hour and a half. Boo-freakin-hoo I know but it sets the precedent of someone never really having a true day off.

I'm salaried but on the clock 36 hours one week and 44 the next and I wish I could get by on 20 hours a week.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Also, it is generally cheaper for employers to pay huge amounts of OT to fewer employees, rather than put additional folks on payroll.

If I did only work 40, I'd be doing side jobs anyway. That's what happened last time I did have a 40hr per week job. I'd just as soon work 60-65 hrs wk. It's less stress that way. For me, the money works out about the same when I figure in the time and money to buy license, quote, purchase materials, do the job, accounting, pay taxes, etc.....

If you are working 60hrs/week and not getting time off to be with your family, then you need to look for another job.
I spend family time, I just do without sleep. I am up at 3:45am and back in bed around 11:00pm. It's seldom that I get very much off of that schedule. It's been like that for the last 15-20 years.

Never have understood why anyone wants to work their life away. It's too short to be on the clock all the time whether you enjoy your work or not. This is the answer. I'd find another job or find things to do without before I gave up my time do do my livin.

I don't punch a clock nor keep time. I work every day to some degree then a lot of days to a lot of degrees. Then sun is my time clock and then some a lot of the summer. I like it that way.

It's all a balance. I work 84 hours on my work weeks (7 12's), but I'm off every other week. So to me, working 84 hours every other week is worth it to have 26 weeks of vacation a year.
