Well just looked at the forecast, and right now its showing 15-25mph winds for Saturday due to the wind. I think im going to just go bird hunting Saturday and wait for the cold front to come on through and get after them Sunday morning. Anyone going to hunt in those windy conditions?

What direction will the wind be coming from? I might try a good thicket on the leeward side of a mountain
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

I dont have any mountains on the property, so that wont be an option for me. I do need some quail for the freezer though and i know my dog has been itching to go

Only bad thing about that wind quail hunting is that those jokers will be screaming when they get up in that wind

10-15 in Stevenson and I have the option of leeward side of the mountain so I'll be out there. Is it just me or has anyone else just not had a cooperative wind this season? I have hunted in nothing but 10+ mph gusts.

I will add that it is supposed to rain throughout Friday night so that's a plus.

I have hunted in nothing but 10+ mph gusts. So do you still climb hunting leeward side on windy days? I'm just trying to open my mind up to any strategy at all. I'd prefer to climb a tree if it's at all bearable.

I'll probably use a climber Saturday morning and get up high on the mountain near bedding and a water source.

I've been hunting a long time and I'm still learning. You can read 10 articles and every one of them will say something different. It happens because they did ____ before the hunt and killed a deer that day so it becomes law. I think they did a study in Oklahoma years ago and found that while wind affected the way they moved, they still moved as much at dawn/dusk regardless of wind speed.

Like has been said before. When you can go deer hunting, go deer hunting. 90% of the time I spend in the woods is just to be in the woods and watch what happens. Maybe a deer is involved... maybe not. Don't let the weather be an excuse. if you enjoy it like I do, then get after it while you can. 25 ft up a big pine on a windy day can be pretty exciting.

As you get older you'll prefer quality sits over quantity of sits. Helps keep pressure down. I'm 32 and I've noticed this. I'm still happy to be out there regardless, but I have noticed I get increasingly frustrated when I'm not seeing deer...which has been the story of my season so far. It's hard not to and the reason is so much of it is luck especially in the world of bow hunting and maybe even more so in the traditional bow hunting crowd. Luck is a fickle thing. Last year, I saw deer almost every time I got in the stand. Same story with the year before that. This year the pin oaks dropped acorns and I found a cedar near one completely destroyed with feeding sign and a few rubs a few days before season started. I hung a stand there and hoped for a NW wind blowing my scent out of the draw. Haven't seen a deer out of that stand yet. It just dried up. Its a year where we have a lot of acorns and on 1500 acres you just hope to make the right educated guess. The tough thing about it is, being so much luck involved, you don't know when that will turn around and you have little control over it.
