I like the magnet on an aerial photo as well as a written log so you know which members to kick out next year

I considered switching to Virtual Sign In Board but it is too limited for our needs. Love the concept but I need an app that integrates our detailed property maps and includes boundaries, stands, observation data, harvest data, etc. Even spoke with VSIB's owner about the deficiencies. He says the level of interactivity we want is way too advanced for most customers who buy his app. Not sure I agree with that.

Yup, I saw it at the deer expo, and it seemed pretty cool, especially with the safety alerts, but definitely has limitations

I have used magnets, dry erase markers over topos and colored pins and even a sign in/out log book. I liked the log book because you could tell what stands were hunted and when.

The club I was in in Suggsville in the late 70's used a ledger book with date, member name, guests name, area (we had a map with designated areas), time in and out, and what was harvested. A copy of the current rules was stuck in the ledger. It's also a good place to write info/notes you want all members to see. We now use that same format in our family club. We keep it in a tractor shed on the family home place. It's pretty cool to read the entries from years past sometimes and you can see how long its been since someone hunted an area/stand. It's nice to have a written record of activities.

We use a magnetic map. We attached a piece of sheet metal to the wall and attached a laminated map to it. We have a sheet of paper with a numbered list of the members, and magnets with numbers, so each member has their own set of magnets one for themselves and one for a guest (child in some cases). So member #8 had a #8 and #8G magnet. Then, they just stick it to the map where they will be hunting. It is easy to look at the map and see who is hunting where.
We used to also use a sign in sheet, but since our membership has been reduced, that has gone by the wayside.

I thought of an idea. I don't have any IT experience but could an app be developed using google earth or maps. You pin yourself in on your phone at a location and members in your club could see it. After four hours the pin disappears unless you do it again. No forgetting to pin out. No stopping by a board The pinning out is a safety thing. It'd be a bitch to need help and nobody come looking for you if you didn't show up after hunting The app already exist and will even text you if your forget to sign out or dial emergency numbers if you go past a certain time without signing out. We used it in the club I was in last year and it was the best, most painless way of knowing who was hunting and where. You could even look back at the log online and see how many times a stand was hunted over a certain time period. I think each member paid $5 for the year to use it. I believe it was called virtual sign out board but can't remember.

http://virtualsigninboard.com/It makes it easy to check in on the club during the day while I'm at work. The observation log when you unreserve a zone is a great management tool. If there is an emergency you can hit the emergency tab and a text with your GPS location will be sent to every member. You have the harvest report with pictures. You can set the GPS location for all of your game cameras. There are a lot of the features that I haven't used yet.

Like others, we have a large aerial map with metal behind it so a magnet (with number of hunter) can be placed on the board. Also have a notebook that details (1) date, (2) name, (3) area, (4) harvest, (5) time in, and (6) time out.
As others have pointed out, keeping a notebook accomplishes some good things. First, it lets people who don't hunt regularly to know what stands have been hunted recently. There's nothing like getting to the club and hunting a stand one afternoon to learn at the clubhouse that night that someone shot a deer and spent two hours looking for it in that same area earlier in the day. Second, it allows prospective members to see harvest and pressure for themselves. If you say "we don't have a lot of pressure on this club," there's proof of what that means for the prospective member.

Magnetic sign in board is great. Also a grease pencil that you can wipe off after you return. The big club I'm in uses a push pin and the board has to be redone every year.

The comments about what was seen on each hunt isn't the least bit reliable since all deer hunters are liars. I'm sure not telling everyone that I saw a big buck in a certain spot. I might tell someone but not everyone

We ordered a big map and laid it over sheet metal. A piece of lexan over that and screwed it to the wall. Property lines are marked in Permanent marker on the lexan. Every member has a Poker chip that has a Magnet glued to the back with his name on it. Works nicely

On virtual sign in board you can make your maps as detailed as you want using google earth, etc. it's work at first but worth it. That is a huge negative for guys like me who already built detailed maps. I am looking for an app that allows importing my existing Google Earth Pro map.
