I just have to say first that I am so thankful to the Lord for allowing me the opportunity to kill this buck!
I got to the check in station around 4:30 and headed to my spot. I had a long walk in and wanted to give myself plenty of time. I was settled in at 5:35 just waiting on daylight. I bow hunted this new to me spot yesterday to scout it for the rifle hunt today and saw a couple of deer and an unidentified buck. After the hunt I got down and eased back towards where the buck had come from. I found good buck sign that I couldn�t see from the tree I was in and saved a new waypoint for my hunt this morning. That�s where I climbed this morning. I had some deer filter through behind me before it got good daylight and it was all quiet until 6:30. I heard a twig snap and looked up and this buck had crested a little ridge in front of me. I instantly knew he was a good one and started to get my rifle up. He was angling towards me on that ridge top as I got into position and put the crosshairs on him. He stopped to look around Quartering to me and I fired one one off. He mule kicked and tried to run but his leg was just flopping. He stopped perfectly broadside and was wobbly and I put another one in him. He dropped righ there. Now, I dial my scope up and I can see his rack and his neck and he�s moving around a little bit and squeeze another one off CNC has got me so scared of a back slapped deer I shot him until he quit moving!!!! As it turns out the 2nd and 3rd shots were unnecessary as the first shot had smoked him and turned that shoulder into jelly. I knew he was good but had no idea he was an 11 point until I walked up on him. Obviously this has been my best deer season by far and I feel blessed beyond belief to kill 2 bucks on public land.
