I've got to hunt some some tree stands more in one weekend than I normally get to hunt in a year due to this east wind.. told my dad the other day that there has been more east winds this year than I can remember in the last 10..

My best stands are set up for E/SE winds. That seems to always be in the constant wind two days leading up to a major cold front in the fall.
I do need to have a couple more N/NW wind stands though.

I checked my observation log for this year and compared it to previous years. We have had more than 50% east winds on most days I have been able to hunt. A LOT more than previous years. It definitely hinders my ability to hunt because I have few stands set for that wind. I've done more climber hunting this year too.

Most of my stands need West or North winds too, but I have a few that need East winds. So I have been ok last few days.
My problem is Southerly winds. Despite the fact that South winds bring warm air which suppresses deer movement in general, I have very few places to hunt with those winds because of the lay of the land.
Always said the best property is one that you have spots that you can hunt whatever the wind is - or else have more than one property to hunt to accomodate this need.

i know the south wind may bring some warm weather and moisture but if we are just complaining about the direction why cant you just move to the other side where the wind will be in your favor thats what i usually do This isn't always possible depending on bedding areas and travel corridors.

East is worse than south. Agree completely, Outback. I'm surprised that this conversation took the direction of "stand placement" in regards to an east wind. I've never killed much of crap, nor caught many fish on an east wind.
