I’m just curious if anyone’s been hit with actual marketed snake boots on? I’m sure we all put a lot of faith in our boots.

I quit wearing them a long time ago. Made me legs too hot.

I've never tested mine. Saw a video a while back where one manufacturer tested it by sticking a balloon in the boot that was form fitted to the inside, so that it went all the way to the toes and was snug inside the boot. Let a big rattler nail it several times and it never broke through. I wish ALL snake boot manufacturers would do similar.

My question is, do they work better than leather? I do wear snake boots, because I'm not willing to risk it.

My snake boots are Gokey Bullhide snakeboots and will damn sure work better than any rubber or regular leather boot. And I have been bit while stomping a cottonmouth with them.

I have seen a guy at Orvis let a rattler bite his Gokeys over and over. Didn't seem to bother him one bit.

I don't know of but one time I was actually bit and that was a moccasin. I was standing on top of him and he was pissed. We wore those old Gator Chaps with the aluminum shell on the lower part. I rarely put my chaps on any more, unless there is some bad briars.

gotta treat them with silicone spray/nic wax (or the like) every season to maintain any reasonable waterproofness. never owned a pair that were actually waterproof without treatment (rocky, danner, irish setter, nor lacrosse)

Absolutely... Been hit 3 times over the years and glad I had them on. I rarely wear them turkey hunting though, not sure why. Was hit by a cottonmouth and rattlesnake in the same summer while cruising timber in south GA/AL. The other was a copperhead, he really snuck up on me. Walked all over him before he let me have it.

For that price I think they should be shark proof. I'll stick with my Lacrosse snake boots and hope I never find out if they are not snake proof.

Chippewa boots are not cheap either, not as bad as Gokeys, but seem to be nice boots. Surprisingly lightweight too.

It would take an absolutely unreasonable amount of money for me to get in that snake pit even with snake boots on.

Cheaper than Russell Moccasin bullhide snake boots at $800.
