Every now and then you get lucky. I just found a pretty busy nest that I pretty much mowed right over last night. No idea why I didn't get lit up, but I appreciate their benevolence. Unfortunately for them, their kindness will not be reciprocated. As soon as it's good and dark, I've got a 90 octane cocktail with their name on it.

We call them yeller jackets below the Mason-Dixon

One time when my cousin came up from Orlando I was doing yard work at my mom's and he was dying to help because he thought it was fun and cool since he'd never had a yard of his own living in apartment complex's his whole life so needless to say I told him to knock himself out. His weapon of choice was an axe to chop some bushes down that my mom wanted gone meanwhile I was on the lawn mower. All of a sudden while riding the mower he comes by me running and kicking so crazy that he ran out of his shoes and come to find out he was standing right on top of an underground nest of yellow jackets and he apparently irritated them chopping on that bush and tore him up and chased him all the way from one end of the yard to another. Up until then I'd never seen and yellow jackets underground but I fixed them with some gasoline and afterwards I tore the nest up with a shovel and was amazed at the size of the nest and how many dead yellow jackets were in there.

They're the Devil's spawn...

They have several eloquent nicknames not restricted to region...

Yellow Jack's & those blame black head bumble bees that nest in the ground. More than once I've been b-hogging in late summer & got eat up. You stir them up as you pass by em on round one. On round two you ride straight into hell.

My nightmares are comprised nests of yellow and black flying Water Moccasin Jackets, complete with fangs and stingers on their tails. Satan himself could not dream up anything more evil.

Them sumbeeches is EVIL! I haven't been stung since I got the tractor with a cab though

The cab Trac be nice for sure but I still use one without cab as well & them blame things sure make you look around behind you.

I'm fixing to start calling em ground bees around here.
Wife: “Damn honey. What got hold of you? There’s welts all over you.”
Me: “It was the ground bees. Flying demons straight from hell.”

For future reference... 87 octane will work just as good and save you a few cents...

Not sure why, but around here, above ground they're yellow jackets and below ground they're ground bees. Now quit laughing at me. Damn kids...

Those above ground that resemble the others are guinea wasp and have the same temperament as their asshole cousin underground dwellers.

I have 15 of em on a nest hangin out side on my brand new windows. I got a can of hornet/wasp spray. Its about 10ft up. I been dreadin the night i do it cause its gonna slow the retreat down gettin off up high
