41 steps with 20ga HW 7s. First turkey I ever killed. My brother told me that I was up and at the turkey before my little 1100 cycled the new shell in the barrel.

I had a misjudged range paced to 53 yds... twice years apart.
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

I misjudged one and killed it at 50 steps. M1Beneli and 3"Nitro 4-5-7s. I shot one on purpose at 65 yards with a 10ga Ithica and 3 1/2 #4s, broke both legs, one wing, and his neck.
I have killed two birds flying at around 75-80 yards AFTER both were badly shot up by others at 30 yards. One folded like a quail, the other cartwheeled and fell into a ditch. 3"#2s Both when I was guiding.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I hav shot at multiple in South Dakota at diff times at 75-80 yards in huge open pasture - never hit them - would hav swore they were at 45 yards. And my first double was yat 62 step and shot another one year later at 55 - that was about 25 years ago - my shots generally happen inside 35
Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self We need prayer for our country now more than ever

Killed one in TN on my birthday one year. The high was 88 degrees that day best I remember. Second time I had fooled with this stubborn field turkey. The first time, my hardheaded pal shot the other one with him the weekend before about 4 seconds before we could double up. It got to be around 12:30 that second time, I was laying prone in medium height grass, and the sun was beating down on me while he was strutting in the shade on the cusp of gun range. Never been so hot and miserable while turkey hunting in my life. Finally talked myself into him being close enough and made him crane his neck, held a little high, and touched it off. It ended up being 64 steps with TSS 9’s out of a 20 gauge and he never flopped. I would have sworn he was between 50 and 55 yards.
