What is the longest shot you’ve killed a turkey? Not like the other thread where long shots are intentional. Either misjudged the distance or he got hung up and wouldn’t come any closer and you had a clear window to take the shot type of scenario. Mine is 54 steps. Further than I would like. I flat out misjudged the distance and didn’t realize it was that far til I started running to him. The only thing that kept him from coming any closer was a 4” limb laying on the ground and he would not go over it or around it.

When I was first getting consistent at killing turkeys I made a crawl on one in our pasture and killed it with a 3.5" Mag Blend at 76 steps. I knew he was far but didn't think he was THAT far. I wont shoot at one now if I think he is outside of 40.

Shot one last year hunting a greenfield. I saw him coming in to my decoys and about half way across, he smelled a rat and made a hard right turn. He was about two steps from being gone and I put the dot on his head and shot. I knew if was further than 40 yards but didn't realize that it was actually 63 yards until I got to him and ranged back to the tree I was sitting on. Shot him with 20 gauge TSS #9s.

41 steps with 20ga HW 7s. First turkey I ever killed. My brother told me that I was up and at the turkey before my little 1100 cycled the new shell in the barrel.

70 yards in the fog. I had no idea he was that far away.

64 steps was mine. I had worked this bird for hours and he finally came in. I was sitting up against the only tree around and had no cover. He stood there forever and was about to leave and I tried him. Luckily I piled him up. I have missed a many way closer than that I reckon I just got lucky

I misjudged one and killed it at 50 steps. M1Beneli and 3"Nitro 4-5-7s. I shot one on purpose at 65 yards with a 10ga Ithica and 3 1/2 #4s, broke both legs, one wing, and his neck.

I have killed two birds flying at around 75-80 yards AFTER both were badly shot up by others at 30 yards. One folded like a quail, the other cartwheeled and fell into a ditch. 3"#2s Both when I was guiding.

Misjudged in rolling hill country and killed one at 62 yards. Thought he was inside 50. 20 ga 870 with 3” #9s.

My son rolled one up dead as a wedge last year at 46 with a 410 and #9s.

I hav shot at multiple in South Dakota at diff times at 75-80 yards in huge open pasture - never hit them - would hav swore they were at 45 yards. And my first double was yat 62 step and shot another one year later at 55 - that was about 25 years ago - my shots generally happen inside 35

Killed one in TN on my birthday one year. The high was 88 degrees that day best I remember. Second time I had fooled with this stubborn field turkey. The first time, my hardheaded pal shot the other one with him the weekend before about 4 seconds before we could double up. It got to be around 12:30 that second time, I was laying prone in medium height grass, and the sun was beating down on me while he was strutting in the shade on the cusp of gun range. Never been so hot and miserable while turkey hunting in my life. Finally talked myself into him being close enough and made him crane his neck, held a little high, and touched it off. It ended up being 64 steps with TSS 9’s out of a 20 gauge and he never flopped. I would have sworn he was between 50 and 55 yards.

71 steps with 3.5” magblends. It was raining and he was coming out of a field from left to right into some thinned pines. I was mainly watching him with my peripheral vision bc I had a hen just about in my lap I was trying not to spook. That bird ended up winning the Lazenby farms turkey rodeo but I would have never shot him knowing he was at that distance.
