Want to see a real circus in the making? South Huntsville is the recipient of a housing project called "The Cottages". There are 381 houses being built. Size? 781 sq ft for (one bedroom) or 1020 for two BR. And they will be rentals. This is just above Green Cove Road. The area is surrounded by $350 -$450k homes. They look exactly like the shotgun houses of the old south.

I bet there’s going to be a lot of squawking from the area residents. It will not be good for property values.

There is a community next to our old neighborhood that is being built, and the sign says new home rentals. As the rentals in our neighborhood increased the home maintenance decreased. That is why we left.

Too late - this will be a fast food version of a ghetto.

There is a difference - people who spend that kind of $ on real estate and live there will generally take care of their place.

…especially when they are paying for it themselves…”given” never holds the same reverence as “earned”.

Sure, but by definition, it is the segregation of an ethnic group. Piling all of one kind of people in one place. Itll probably come in handy some day.

Are you assuming only "white people" can afford a $3-400k house? Which is about the national average only somewhat above the average Huntsville cost?

This is nothing new. They destroyed the area around Grissom High school years ago by moving in the crap. My sis had a nice house in that area for many many years but they are now in Hampton Cove. When I was in HHS, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, a good friend was at Grissom and the number of non-swimmers in the whole school could be counted on two hands. I was jealous of him cause HHS was eat up with them.

Those in Huntsville better get a grip on this or you will wind up like Birmingham and everyone is going to be living outside a certain perimeter. And then the core city will turn the shait because that's who will run it. That's a long way off but in the works. Y'all should raise hell and figure out who can make a change at the Housing Authority.

Maybe one of these politicians running for office can help y'all out and get someone fired as soon as they stop running against Joe Biden and start running for the people of Alabama

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Better there than Meridianville. I see those homes going up when I'm driving to Ditto. I was wondering why they were so small and close to each other. Now I know.

Wasn’t this started under Obama’s reign. I swore I could remember a Huntsville talk show talking about it becoming a possibility before Trump came into office. I thought he had a state rep on and trying to prevent it.

A quick google

Liberals want everyone to own a nice home....... What they fail to realize is everywhere democrats move into they trash, crime rates soar and thus property values plummet. I don't understand why they think it will work. Donia said it right ”given” never holds the same reverence as “earned”.

I got flamed here a while back for saying Huntsville will be a chithole in 10 years but I’d bet money on it. You can thank Battle for a lot of this with his “decentralize the poverty “ policies. Basically moving people out of the projects to south Huntsville. Really it was relocate to poverty off that high dollar real estate around the hospital. Real estate in Arab would be a good investment right now.

There's already a big trailer park there. Has been for a long time. Some woman was murdered there a few years ago.
