Recently had some timber work done . Did a 2nd thinning on some 22yr old pine & added 2 small clearcuts (14ac & 10acre). My aim is strictly to create some bedding & improve browse since the place is fairly open due to the hardwood areas. Id like to keep the clearcuts as thick as possible & have no plans to replant them with pine. Do you guys recommend burning these clearcuts every few yrs to keep the bedding & browse low to the ground?

Yes. Utilize fire and chemical as needed to set back growth and maintain desired levels and type of vegetation. Can even mix in some discing as well if you feel so inclined. If you’re looking for really thick bedding for deer your burn rotations are probably going to be around 4-5 years I think, but you’ll just have to keep an eye on it. It’s somewhat site specific.

Yeah if you don't continue to reset the vegetation you will eventually have a closed canopy thicket likely consisting of small pine, sweetgum, and privet.
