I borrowed a ph meter from our lab knowing I haven't added lime to my yard in a while. Tested a few spots yesterday and Holy crap it averaged around 4.5ph. One spot read 3.8 some as high as 5.0. I asked the lady who ordered it if she believed it was accurate and she said they checked it against another meter in the lab and both read the same. Extremely acid so I started looking at how much lime I actually needed. Looks like this is going to be a multiple application process over the next couple years. From what I can see I will need at least 1/2ton or around 20-25 bags of pellitized lime. Wouldnt it be better to put out 1/2 now and the other 1/2 in the fall. Im working on just under 1.5acre yard. Interested to see what 007 has to say. Also plan to test some of our greenfields this weekend or next. I figured I would be acidic but not that acidic.
Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!

That is very low, even for some of the crappy soils we have in the state. I typically use about half of what is recommended in liquid, and the other half pellitized. The liquid will be more fast-acting and provide some quicker change, while the pellitized will take some time but still get you there. Once you get it where it needs to be, pellitized is fine if you stay on top of it. Keep in mind that if you are fertilizing regularly, the pH will keep being driven down, and lime will be needed along with the fertilizer, each year. There are some pretty good liquid lime products, but they aren’t cheap.
If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

Pro-cal also makes it. I have used it before, its really handy to get the PH moving in a hurry. They told me 4 bags would raise the PH on an acre by 1 full point. I never tested it to see if that was accurate. I tried liquid lime, and didn't like it. I personally don't see how they can "condense" that much product into a 2.5 gallon jug.

yup, 50lb bags most of what i get is a pallet worth or more. typically $16-18 a bag. would be 20%ish more if u buy it from a store.

Somewhat similar to Ag lime? I know the liquid is a "flash" adjustment and doesnt last nearly as long. What makes the cal-max so much more effective in the ph adjustment, than just plain old pelletized lime? 5-6 bags for a full point on the Cal-max. Everything I can find on the pelletized is 20-25 bags for a full point or about 50% of the required tonnage for std Ag lime.

ive check customers that were in the high 4s, low 5s after a year and it’ll jump a point , i’ll apply the same rate again which puts them close to 6ish. will treat again with 1/2-3/4 rate to get them in the 6.5-6.8 range which is perfect for southern warm season grasses as to the availability to the most micros they need. usually treat with a maintenance amount yearly after that and they maintain at that #. never applied it more than once a year as most customers don’t want too many extra charges in addition to the 7-8 applications i’m already doing.

They told me about 90 days at Greenpoint on Procal lime.
