I have seen a lot of info stating that CVA Scout and Scout v2 single shot rifles are pretty accurate. Does anybody here have one in 44 mag? I am a bullet caster and have 225 gr, 250gr, and 300 gr molds. How does it shoot? Any cast bullet loads in it? thanks Murf

I’ve got one in 6.5 that shoots as good as my bolt rifles.Don’t know anything about the .44 but I believe you’ll be impressed with it…

I had two scout v2’s stainless, a 44 mag and 243, got rid of both.

The mechanism would always bind up when I went to break the barrel open, sucks compared to a handi rifle.

The 44 shot great, the 243 wouldn’t group worth crap for me.

Both rifles got sent back (pain in azz) and they both were still sucky at cracking open.

My 243 had a 1lb trigger pull.

No more for me.

I have a 223,243,7mm08 and 35 remington in either scout or hunter.
Ive not had any issues with mine. I bought them not expecting them to be super accurate target guns. When i carry one of them its usually to places with 100-150 max shots.

Had one in .45-70. Very accurate, but kicked like a mule. I shot it once without the muzzle brake. Never again.

Yeah, I had a 45/70 Handi Rifle and it would drain your sinuses for you with 405 bullets at 1750 fps. I let someone else enjoy that one.

I'm truly curious, because I've never held or shot the CVA, what is the draw for it over the TC? is it just price, is there a major ergonomic advantage? I've always shot TC and never left wanting for anything different.

Ford vs chevy.

When i started looking for a compact single shot CVA was much more available and they also offered SS option so that was a plus for me.

The reason I (think) I want one is for a range toy and a T/C is a lot pricier a toy than a $400 CVA.

I think the T/C is no longer made. Neither is the Handi rifle. If you want new (non inflated prices), I think the CVA and maybe Henery are about the only break action single shot game in town

I did know that the Contenders and Encores were no longer made by TC, but there's so many out there and so much aftermarket support that seems like a non issue, you can even buy new contender frames made by SSK industries now. to me, the handi rifle isn't in the same class because it's not a switch barrel system, but I guess I'm just now realizing I made an assumption the Scout was a switch barrel gun also, but a quick Google search shows that's not the case.

I have a Scout in 35 Whelen. It’s surprising how well that thing shot with factory ammo. I loaded up some 250gr Speer sp to try. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I wish I hadn’t pulled the last shot. This is at 100yds. [Linked Image]

Y’all don’t have any problems with it opening smoothly?

Maybe I got two lemons but the hassle to return them sucked and when I got them back the problem was still there.

I was spoiled by my stainless handi rifles I guess

I think TC went out of business or was bought out by someone (s&w maybe).

T/C is no more and their black powder products are bringing a premium on the used market.

Yes S&W did buy them but they said it was not making them any money so they canned the entire brand. The new frames are pretty good from the people I have talked to at the gun shows but by the time you buy a stock, forend, frame and barrel, you have a sizeable investment.

No Sir!! I’ve never noticed any issues. I’ll start really paying attention next time I shoot it. I did have the issue of the shavings in the holes when they milled the holes for the scope base. Other then the obnoxious muzzle break and the recoil, no other issues.

My problem was with the release lever thing you pull with your finger, it would bind up and take considerable pull pressure to get the barrel to crack open

I wanted to like them for sure
