Can I use regular foot holds like for coyotes for beavers? Got some taking up residency in pond and creek.

Not saying you can't catch one doing that but I wouldn't recommend it. You'd have a high chance of it twisting it's leg off, only catching toes or missing it. If you caught it's toes it would break them off pretty quick. Drowning rods, conibears or snare is definitely the best way. I'd recommend a number 5 Bridger or anything else in that size or larger for drowning rods.

I was afraid it wouldn't work. I may just sit on the creek and pond bank and shoot them with a thermal. Doubt I get them all, but maybe I can make them move on.

I catch them all the time with mb 550 blind sets on long chains. Check traps early and try to set in open areas so the chain doesn’t tangle and cause a twist off or pull outs.

Bayed Up,

What are you calling a blind set? I've got a few on my lake I need t get after. How well do you have to hide a foothold to catch a beaver? I've caught them in conibears before but I don't have a good way to guide them in a conibear at this particular location and will need to try and use my K9's on them.

I've caught them in shallow water(not deep enough to drown them) with MB750's on 10 feet of chain. Try for a back foot catch, beavers have small front legs and will pull/twist out on a front foot catch.
