I recently came into possession of an Electro-fishing rig (Samus 725m) from a friend who’s moving and downsizing. Are these legal in AL? I don’t have any plans to use it. Just trying to figure out if I can sell it locally or if I need to liquidate it elsewhere.

Only works well in moving water....Rivers/Creeks. It'll certainly tickle Mr. Whiskers to the surface!!

I wonder if you can use it on a non-navigable creek running through private property? It isn't public water if you can't get to it by boat, but I'm not sure what rights the state claims in that situation.

I once saw a state fisheries boat shocking and netting stripers, presumably for brood fish. I didn't get to talk to them, but I don't know why else they would have been trying to catch and keep alive 20 pound plus fish. They were using a generator to shock them, so that was a lot more electricity than a device like the OP has. It doesn't take much to knock a catfish to the surface, and that's the reason that the old telephones would work. It takes a lot more power to get a scaly fish up. At least, that's what people have told me. I have no personal experience with it.

I've got one I built out of the generator from an old hand crank phone coupled with a condenser. Crank it with a cordless Dewalt Drill. Put a meter on it and it's cranking out right at 145 volts. Ma' Bell will call 'em up!!

catfish and bass need different currents...AC vs DC. I caught half dozen boats electro fishing on the Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers.

No trap here, he didnt say he was using it for nefarious reasons. He doesn’t seem to care the internet knows he has one. Never seen one, would like too.
