Several years ago my Dad and I were fishing in a bass tournament in the Delta. It was a Saturday during turkey season. Of course while we are fishing my ears are still always tuned in listening for a turkey gobble. We haven't heard any that morning, but we were approached by a hunter on a boat that had asked us if we heard anything. We said no and he went on to say he had been hunting one in the area.

Just as soon as he cranked back up and eased on out of sight, I see a gobbler pitch from one island to the next. I let it settle down and get quiet again with some boat traffic and owl hooted one time. That joker gobbled 100 yds off the bank and started getting fired up. I bet he gobbled another 50 times with us there bass fishing. River bottom turkeys are a different breed. That can be some of the toughest hunting. Especially with the land obstacles.

I have had turkeys roosted the night before and they would tree hop. This happens quite often over flooded terrain.

They are all the same. Tree hopping occurs sometimes, have seen them twice try to fly from the roost across the Coosa river, crash land in the middle, swim to the other side and continue on about their day.
