I’m getting too old to track and drag deer. I shoot a Tikka 270. This past season I shot a doe with a 150 grain Nosler Partition, I hit the deer two inches above the heart. The deer still ran 60 yards with very little blood. Luckily I was able to get to the deer with the sxs and get it loaded. I hunt in a rough hills and deep hollers. I hand load the Partitions and they are very accurate with 52 grains of H4350. I’m not concerned about meat damage. I want a bang flop or a dies with in sight that looks like a crime sign. Is they’re a better bullet than a Nosler Partition?!?

I load my 130 Gn. with 54.0 gn. h 4350.and win lr primers. tried several loads and this was the most accurate. Anchors them in place for me as long as good bullet placement

I hunted with a 270 for the first time this past season. Worked up a good load with 110 ttsx over h4350 3290-3300 fps. Killed 3 with it. 2 dropped one ran 15 yd. Complete pass though on all 3. Minimal meat damage on the buck I shot in the shoulder. Doesn't bust em up as bad as the 30-06 with 165-180 ttsx/tsx.

There are no guarantees with any bullet but a bullet that fragments in the boiler room usually gets quick results. The Sierra is a good bullet that usually gets quick results. Load it to around 3000 FPS and you should be happy.

BTW, I like Nosler Partitions. Always had great results with them and would say I got quicker kills with a 140 gr partition compared to a 139 gr Hornady in my 7x57.

Most important factor is bullet placement.

I think you want a complete energy dump. I can’t imagine a better round than a SST. They are like putting a M80 in a deers chest and lighting a fuse! You don’t need bonded bullets for whitetail. Partitions are excellent bullets but I think a Nosler BT and a Hornady SST are your best options. Also, I am sure you know this but shoot them in the shoulder. That is the best place to deliver the most shock to the central nervous system and get the DRT results you want. Best of luck!

Do you think I’m to heavy shooting 150 grain Nosler Partition?? For the record, I’m not a fan of ballistic tip bullets.

For what you want, try some 130 grain Sierra Tipped Matchkings.

Dave loves Partitions. Don't need them for whitetail in Bama. Brother hit a 93 lb doe with a 154 Hornady out of his 7 mag that literally pushed the deer into a pine tree. If you want 2 holes Partitions are your bullet if you want one hole the Sst or Ttx will sizzle them up.

Dave,
I want two holes. With an exit hole the size of your fist!!!

Accubonds give best of both world performance. Bonded bullet for penetration and exit and up front performance similar to a ballistic tip

Ballistic tips are a solid no for me. I lost a deer shooting a SST. Small entrance hole. Explode on inside. Deer runs 70 yards in a cutover with no blood. Buzzards found it a week later.

All ballistic tips aren’t created the same. Even NBTs are different depending on caliber and weight. Just have to pick the best one for your application.

So how can I possibly know which bullet to pick???

Research. I’m not saying that to be a dick. I didn’t learn the difference in some of the Nosler ballistic tips(NBT) until recently. I haven’t researched the 277 caliber bullets for which NBT is best. Sorry no help on the caliber. I looked more at the 7mm and 308 cal NBTs. However , I bet if you dropped to 130/140 grain bullets in Accubond or Partition, you’d be happy with the results. Should give you the two holes that you like(I prefer that as well) and more speed to potentially causing more internal damage.

If you want DRT every time you gotta break bones and shock the CNS.

Or get rid of that ghey 270 and get a real man's gun. grin

That’s right!!! If it ain’t kicking the snot out of you when you squeeze the trigger, you ain’t doing squat!! Trust me, a 35 Whelen with a 250gr soft point will definitely wake you up when you squeeze the trigger. Killer on both ends.
