Always wanted a Colt 1911 since I was a kid, and decided a few years ago to make it happen. I wanted a no frills, GI style gun like they were way back when. The 01991 Colts were what I really wanted, but after doing research they had the Series 80 firing system, which has its pros and cons, and the slide markings changed a little from what I liked. I decided to hold off a while, and had my 1944 Remington Rand to scratch the itch anyway. Got to where I was carrying it hunting in a GI style tanker holster a good bit, and then worried about carrying an old gun with me, not that I shot it a lot, but I’d be upset if something happened to it. Decided to buy a Colt, as they had gone back to the series 70 system. After looking for one for over a year I kinda gave up and decided on a Springfield Garrison stainless 45. Months go by, and I see blued 45s, and stainless 9mms everywhere, until I just happened to run across a stainless 45 in the Tuscaloosa Academy. Bought it on the spot. Absolutely love the pistol, and it fits the bill for what I wanted in a 1911 even more than I imagined. About 4 months ago, I walked into the local gun shop and there it was, the Colt I’d been after. I said to myself you’ve already bought a Springfield, just let it go. But everytime I went in the store, I’d ask to see the Colt. Had won a $300 gift certificate to that shop at the NWTF banquet in March and it was burning a hole. Woke up on my birthday yesterday morning and said to myself just go buy the damn pistol, only get to do this once. So I did. It’s a really nice pistol, but the trigger has a ton of creep. Only complaint I have about it. If you put the Springfield garrison in my hands, or the Colt, the Springfield is much better. But it also comes from the factory with a better trigger, Novak style sights, extended safety, extended palm safety, pretty much all the basic mods most 1911s these days have. Other than that I love the Colt, but will see about the trigger and will be changing the grips out to the same style, with the rampant Colt medallion inset. Apparently Colt discontinued them, but they’re still out there. Love my 1911s, God bless John Moses Browning.

Well, the excitement was short lived. While I was cleaning the factory grease off, I noticed this. First off, I can't believe someone installed this rear sight and said, "Yep that looks right". Surely there is someone that does a final inspection before they package it up as well. Lastly, I don't know how I missed it. But this pistol was new in the box in the back, not the one I had handled in the display case. I gave it a brief glance over before I left the store, but I guess in my excitement I just missed it. Anyway, Colt will be getting a call later.

Yeah, I know solid QC is a thing of the past, and mistakes happen, but dang. Just got off the phone with Colt, and I couldn't explain it in a way he could get a mental picture of what's going on, so emailed him pictures. We will see what they say. I know it blows my mind the BS folks just let got. Got a Ruger bisley last year and one of the grip plates was off by and eighth of an inch (had a gap) didn't line up with the hole, and SOB made a metal grinding noise when the cylinder rotated. My son actually purchased the gun and missed it, cause he didn't really look, but i do, but stuff still gets by me sometimes

Should've seen the new Christian arms mesa fft i sent back few months ago. I opened the box and immediately noticed the finish on the stock at the bolt handle cut out was peeling and cracking, so i had to contact them a and send it right back. Now will it probably do the same in the future probably so, but I'm not purchasing something brand new that looks freaking used lol. With that said i know I've heard bad on some of their customer service, but had awesome service, might be cause they knew that shucks shouldn't have left the factory in that condition 😏

What a bummer! It’s amazing what the QC guys miss these days.

Bought a stainless Commander about 10 years ago, it never was accurate, maybe about 5 years ago I took it to a gunsmith who proved it wasn't just me, the gun just wouldn't shoot. He said, why don't you call Colt, they stand behind their guns. So, I did, and Colt sent me an RMA and I sent it in. About two months later it came back from their custom shop with a new barrel and a fitted bushing, and it shoots lights out.

Colt much like Remington has never been able to get it back together after several booms and busts in their Company history. Most don't know the real story behind what happened to Colt. They got caught up in some strikes in the 80's but the true nail in their coffin came in the late 90's and early 2000's. Those on Wall Street that invest in Firearms Companies have ruined a few and Colt is not an exception.
Hire Woke. Go Broke. That was Colt 25 years ago. This is nothing new fellas. We sent a message. The 2A has been under heavy attack since Reagan. Colt got what they deserved.
Now as far as this pistol is concerned the silver lining is that at least Ruger now owns Marlin and everyone makes a 1911. I hear the Savage 1911 is a good one.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Got an email this morning that the gun was delivered to Colt. As much as I hate I had to use customer service on a new Colt, the process has been easy. We will see what the final product is like.
Shop where I bought it got in a new 4 1/4” Python blued steel and walnut, man it’s is absolutely gorgeous. Glad it’s already sold. Yeah my Gal has a 4 and a 6" and it's nice. Ifn i didn't already have a 6" fully engraved Anaconda on layaway I'd get it. Of course she says i'll put up anything you want 😄
