You can get a lot closer to western birds than you can Easterns in the south. As long as you go in there early you can literally get right under them. If you try to set up on them from 150 yards away that is going to be an exercise in frustration because they normally hit the ground and go. So my best advice is to get there early and get super close to them.

My oldest son is making his way back from there now. He said exactly what the guys above stated. If you lay back and play hard to get like you might would here, you’ll be chasing them all day. He said they’d actually fly ridge to ridge throughout the day instead of walking the canyons. The ones they killed liked lots of calling, but he said you had to get within a certain bubble for them to show much interest at all. Outside of that bubble, they’d answer you, but keep on walking the other way.
