Going to SE Kansas this fall. What’s the consensus on best 1 or 2 week span for rut activity?

The biggest thing is the weather. You could go week one and it be great if there’s a good front, or awful if it’s hot. Same if it’s the third week

I was there (unit 11) last year the week of thanksgiving. Rut was still wide open. Bucks I saw were either tending or chasing does. Movements were to unpredictable to develop any kind of plan. It was frustrating. One wheat field I hunted I saw deer hit every day. None ever came out in the same spot. Saw the biggest Bucks of my life, but couldnt call them off does or stop them to shoot an arrow. I would say your chances would be better Early November before the does come in estrus and dudes are cruising. There are plenty of guys on here who have hunted there much more than me. They chimed in to help me last year.

Its not the will to win but the will to prepare to win!

Anytime after Nov 1 can be good. It’s dependent on weather. The absolute best time on BIG deer is after Nov 14th until about Thanksgiving.

I’ve been hunting SE KS since 2009. I have hunted the last week of October - the last week of November. The most consistent week has been the week before Thanksgiving. That being said and something other have said; weather plays a huge roll in deer activity. Last year I went the 2nd week and I saw very little all week (most guys saw less than 10 deer per day and few shooters.) The week before guys were seeing 25-60 per day. The week after I was there was the same; 25-60 per day. When I was there it was very warm and calm. The next weeks before and after I was there was cool/cold and windy.

If you have choice on when you can go I’d choose either week 2 or 3 from my experience.
