if they got to go they got to go and i don't care where they end up at .

i kinda agree with Troy further up for killing for no reason . but having to many and wanting to have a garden is reason enough for me .

I try to kill around 6. We eat deer year round. I also bless some others at church and work that don't hunt but most of it goes in MY freezer. I also enjoy the killing and the work involved in dressing a deer. But I'm struggling this year for #2 so I gotta get with it.

First let me say I supply deer meat to 3-6 households each year. One of which is my house. We RARElY buy beef. We eat deer many ways.

The other households are older folks or friends that don't hunt. They love deer and really appreciate me dropping one off at the processor for them each year.

Now with that out of the way, I don't kill a bunch of deer on a place unless it is needed. The last club I was in was supposed to take 75-125 annually. We (the club) never got near that number. I am hunting an urban deer control location this year and we need to kill every deer we can legally. Trying to do so.

I don't waste the deer.

There are valid reasons.

According to the answers on this thread the reasons that people kill 6,8,10 or more deer in a season is.

1. Just like killing watching stuff die.
2. Donate/Give away
3. Takes that many to supply deer for my family.
4. Over population.
5. Is there given right.

Seen a guy with at least 7 on his trailer heading towards a processor, figured he was dropping some off for others. Looked like they were name tags zip tied to them.

Haven't had time to really deer hunt, but when I did 4-6 a year was about right. Know one family that'll kill and eat 12-15 a year. Know other guys that used to kill over 30 bucks a year and give them away, guess they are killing does too now.

Know of another guy that kills them year around from his vehicle, one day they might catch him.

What number determines a lot of deer? 2? 4? 6? 10? 25?

Between me & my two daughters we try to put 4-6 per year in the freezer. We eat venison year round, prepared about every way it can be served. They usally kill about 1 each and I pick up the slack with another 3 or 4. We don't kill them just to be killing them & seeing them die. We kill them to eat.

I am in my 8th year where I hunt and I have taken 4 bucks in the 8 years I have been there. Three of them are on the wall, two shoulder mounts and one European mount.

By the way, we have not taken a single deer so far this year. Been kind of slow at our hunting spot. Got a lot of catching up to do.

I think this is the critical point in his question. Everyone understands the need to harvest enough deer to keep your deer herd at or below carring capacity, but when this is achieved the continued high harvest of deer can be detrimental to the hunting in that area in the future. If the deer herd in your area needs or can handle the harvest of a lot of deer have at it,but if your deer population is low and you continue to harvest a lot of deer for any of the reasons listed above you are only doing yourself and the others that hunt around you a disservice.

i like to shoot a few deer a year, but i hate dragging, skinning , and processing it, alot of times by myself. i sure aint gonna pay somebody 150 bucks to skin and process my deer.

I don't mind dragging/skinning/processing. I normally do about a dozen deer each season and I did about 150 hogs this summer. Spent a little time at the skinning rack.

between me, my dad, and my brother, we kill anywhere from 15-20 a year, with that being said for just the 3 of us, we have about 3000 acres of land, to ourselves, well kill 8-10 does every year and about half the abount of bucks. and even though we have plenty of land, every year i take 2-4 off of public land. we process our own meat and eat deer in just about anything you could think of. the only thing that wastes is the ribs and hide. so there are reasons out there to kill 15-20+ and not be just killing to be killing. i will never get tired of that THWACKKK!

When I hunted a place that supported it one season between me and my wife we killed 12. Ate every scrap. I dont kill that many now because its a smaller piece of property. We will eat as many as we can get, its all we eat other than buying chicken or something occasionaly. My two kids eat it, parents next door, etc.. Even if I put 5 or 6 up in addition to a few pigs I have to ration it or we will be out way before bow season comes back in.

My wife and I eat one to two deer per year. I try and kill a doe right off the bat for fresh meat and then I wait for a buck better than my last one.

But I don't care how many someone kills as long as it's legal. It's commendable to kill and provide deer for those who can't. If I was able I would do it too.

I used to kill a dozen or more does a year and loved doing so. It has all changed now that the coyotes have moved in heavy. Now only kill a doe or two each year and couple of SOOS bucks and some years a mature trophy buck.

I think I was a better hunter and better shot with bow and gun when I was doing all the doe killing.
