My little mini pincher looks to have gotten tagged 2-3 times. He only weights 5-8 lbs. noticed him moping around kinda stagery. Found 5 puncture marks. Starting to swell. It's right under chin and on neck. Should we give him Tylenol. Benydryl? What y'all think.

Go to the vet

Fry some bacon, pour the grease over biscuits or dry dog food and feed to him. The more grease he gets, the better. My grandaddy used to do this for his dogs when they got rattler bit and when I was a kid it was a regular occurrence. The logic behind this back then was that hogs never died of snakebites, the fat absorbed the poison. Grandaddy may have lost one or 2 but the majority healed up to eventually get bit again.

I would get him to the vet.

He needs some Dexamethasone.

The danger of this is situation is that he is a small dog and the location of the bites are gonna lead to respiratory problems when the swelling gets bad.

Well just feed him as much bacon grease as you can and get him there tomorrow..You know about how long its been since he was bitten?My male boxer got bit in the nose by a 4+ foot timber rattler years ago.I was opening the door to the pen when he struck him.The effects were almost immediate on him.He started getting real weak and layed down and wouldn't get up...All this within 5 minutes of being bit.I took him to the vet and they kept him 3 days.The swelling was very bad.
If its been a day or two he'll prolly be fine..But if it just happened and he's already acting sick I would get him there first thing in the morning or find an emergency vet.

Since the bites are in his neck/throat area, his air way may get cut off. He may not be able to eat also, I would take him to a vet.

Can't hurt to give him benedril.

My grandaddy always used fatback on his rabbit dogs.He would shave the area bitten and then duct tape it to them.He never lost a dog.

Finally got a vet. They said to give him 1 teaspoon of children's benydryl and a 1/4 a aspirin. Said he should be fine. It was while we were at church cause he chased us to the end of the drive on our way out.

Looks to be a decent sized snake too. Watch out!!

Some coon hunters I know all tell me if you can get to your dog right after he's been bit, they soak a rag in gas and hold it on the bite. They swear it pulls the poison out.

My cat just got bit, he swelled up till it burst.
Guess he'll be ok.

Just FYI dogs can take about 2 to 3 times as much benadryl as US so the normal dose you would take would not help the problem. More is better.

Giving a dog bacon grease can cause pancreatic issues. That can kill them and probably it will be far worse than dying of the snake bite.

I'm not picking at you guys that suggested it, but I nearly killed one of my dogs by doing a tablespoon of bacon grease on his food on Sunday mornings two weekends in a row.

Benedryl you also have to be careful of. It could help the airway, but it could also make them drowsy and mask worsening symptoms.

I guess we are blessed to have a couple emergency vets in our area.
